There is a big price difference but I really love the Sony- it's just sexier. Please talk me into spending $500-$600 more with the Sony and do i need the warranty?

Thanks!

If you are a touch typer the 700m keyboard is a disaster.

I am returning one right now. Dell squeezed the ,./ keys together in the space of two keys. I kept hitting / at the end of every sentence. I think the 600m would have been a better choice for me.

I believe the battery life on the Dell is a complete joke unless you get the extended one... which makes it bigger & bulkier and adds to the cost.

Extended warranties (from what I hear) arent that necessary because MOST things that fail on a notebook, will fail within the first few months, if not first few weeks.

The build quality of dells is sub par imo, and the way the S series looks is just so much sexier. I say S series all the way. Here are my reasons:

S is lighter
S is bigger
S has a better video card
S looks better
S has better battery life

Reasons to get a dell

Dell is less expensive

To me it doesnt seem like much contest. Also have you looked at the Clearance 270's? There seemed to be some great deals.

Thanks everyone!

I have to agree for all the reasons that were listed but how does the Sony hold up? I endedup ordering the 700M but I am seriously considering canceling the order and biting the bullet and ordering the sony.
How does the S270 differ from the S360? I posted a nw thread on this toppic. Do i really have to make my own back up CD's. Is that hard to do??

Thanks!

The S270 = S360 in terms of platform and everything, but the 270 is customizable.

I forgot to add the screen difference to my comparison.

I am somewhat interested in how the S360 holds up too. I might have to cancel mine and buy an Asus w3v if there is ANYTHING wrong with it at all.

Theres plenty of reviews on the S series laptops, you can tell that we all are glad we bought it. The is no reason in my honest opinion to get the dell 700m. I know its cheaper, sure... But if you get the S360, you get what you pay for. Better video card (Which if your not a gamer doesnt matter, but some video editing software can benifit from a nice video card), MUCH BETTER SCREEN, and when Is ay much better if you havent already take a look at the two at your local frys. The second I saw the dell screen next to the fujistsu and Sony screens, I said what a waste of money. If your looking for potability, the 360 is super light, and I have gotten damn near 5 and a half hours out of it while doing moderate computer acitivities.

The fan in the Dell is probably less annoying, but as many have mentioned, you can turn the fan off with different profile settings. Which I do when Im in class, I even play games with the fans turned on, but at a more quiet and moderate setting and havent had any problems associated with to much heat.

It's worth the money, and you have until the end of this month... Then you have to wait for the rebates to come back.

700m screen is probably the best Dell has.

I compared side by side to Sony and the Dell 700m screen didn't give anything up. Where it failed was it's squashed keyboard. For some ridiculous reason Dell squashed the keyboard...wasting 3/4" of real estate on either side. The battery isn't a big deal. While it loses it's cleaner lines with the bigger battery it still doesn't look too bad and gets decent run times. The deal breaker for me was the squashed ,./ keys...horrible.
