toshiba and gateway...

hello again...i am nots sure if i am posting things right here on this board...if not...please i apologize and feedbacks are

welcome. this is what i want to ask after reading enumeorous posts here and on other sites about the two notebooks

bellow...thank you in advance

"hi, i have been looking at these two laptops that are onsale at best buy...the toshiba is only 50 dollars more then the

gateway.

they have the same pentium m 1.6 processor, also have 512 of ram. the gateway will take up to 1 gig, the toshiba will take up

to 2 gigs.

the gateway has a 60 of hd while the toshiba has 80 hd.

the gateway has 64 mb of shared memory, while the toshiba says 64 - 128 shared. not sure why they are listing like this, from

64 - 128? what does this mean?

ok...the screen on the gateway is a 14 widescreen, ultrabright...and the toshiba is a 15 wide also, trubite.

the gateway is smaller, 5 pounds, the the toshiba seems to be 6. the gatewa i have read that you can get 4 hours of battery

life on the go, whiel the toshiba i have heard i guess at least 2?

anyhow...i am not sure what to do...seems like the toshiba is the way to go...

i have read good reviews on the gateway one, more then the toshiba one...i have heard of the toshiba's problem with the

freezing up when using the ac and also the heating up fan.

can you please write what you think, please? i will be using this laptop for school...i will be carrying it arround with

me...hummm...i use some programs like photoshop, illustrator, flash...graphic design programs. i tend to keep my computers

clean, no clutter, i only install programs that i use.

i understand i should probably be going for something with more power, but that means more money. i have read some people

saying that they play 3d full games on these two laptops...and also i have on review on the toshiba that they use some

industrial design programs like, auto cad, maya, rhino, etc and they all work fine.

can you please write me some more stuff on these two laptops, please? this would really help me out...oh, almost forgot, i am

ok with a 14 inch screen, even though they say to always get a 15 when doing design.

thank you all for the info..."

Why dont you let us know what Toshiba model you are interested in and what Gateway model. Toshiba laptop is pretty general. Is it a Satellite???? If so what model number ? It much the same as saying I am interested in a Ford and a Dodge car which one should I pick??? Unless you know what models we are talking about it is hard to make an assessment

i apologize...my post was so big that i forgot to mention the models.
the gateway is the 3520gz from best buy (from gateway it is the m210), and the toshiba is the m45 s331.

The satellite m45 is a better choice if you want better performance..It has the newer chipset and the speakers are bound to be better than the gateway. The 15.4" screen, especially with the Trubrite is much better than any other albeit the Sony Xbrites and a few others. But IMO it is better than the Ultrabright. The Toshiba also has more graphics memory even though both are integrated systems and share memory from the system RAM. Dynamically switcable memory in the toshiba uses memory as & when needed...that's the reason it is listed as 64 - 128MB...

But the Gateway is a pound lighter, smaller & provides much better battery life than the Toshiba. So it depends on whether you use the laptop near a power outlet or rather you need the 4hrs battery life.

Quality & Tech support wise the Toshiba(although not the best) is still way ahead of Gateway. Gateway does not even provide a Toll free number...

Considering this I would say the Toshiba is better overall even though the battery life sucks.
