Well gentalmen... due to this thread and all the other reviews i've seen here, im going to purchase a Z71V from IST. Specs as far as I see 'em:
2.0 GHz Pentium M
1GB DDR2-4200 1 dimm
60GB 7200 RPM Hitatchi
Intel 2200 wireless
XP Pro *duh*
Extra AC cord
2yr warrenty

Its going to be around 2.1K and i'll be ordering it within a couple days (short of a notebook that can kick its ass for half the price)

Bahama is getting a notebook! w00t w00t

Well I started overclocking after other people had successfully overclocked, so I didn't think mine would get fried and theirs wouldnt.. but it did. And IST is being incredible by replacing it.

Nice pics!! What camera do you use?

My drive seems slow too, try contacting Asus, I emailed them, they responded asking for more specific info, I responded, and have yet to hear back. Not happy with that support, they could atleast say that they are looking into it or something

I'm guessing Asus (like most manufacturers I've heard of) doesn't really like dealing with end users. They would prefer that you talk to your reseller (IST, ProPortable, etc.), so they don't have to answer the same question over and over.

Hello from Poland, I used an olympus 765 ultra zoom. Just to say the laptop is doing great on my travels, used it on the flight to Poland until the man sitting infront of me decided to push his seat back and almost crushed my laptop.

You were sure to kick his seat randomly throughout the flight right?

damn. i better turn mine down
I'm on 290/580. Seems to work fine. Have noticed the laptop gets hot near bottom of screen above the power button
post #52 of 74
running at 300/600 like olli says it gets hot by the power button but also on the left palmrest below the keyboard... very hot actually, almost uncomfortably so... anyone else notice this? is that my video card under there?

oh and btw i think i paid a little over $1000 usd more for my voodoo than your standard asus z71v... this may seem like a lot of money but remember that i got a t-shirt with my notebook
post #53 of 74
Hey, a thousand dollar t-shirt. I'd hang on to that.

300/600!! Does it run stable? I tried 295/580 but it was unstable, HL2 slowed down every 3mins and 3dmark03 did not finish. Sometimes the laptop gets so hot above the power button next to the Asus sticker you could burn yourself pretty bad.
Whats your 05 mark score?
I got 2226 on 290/580

290/580 runs stable you said? N0oB question: what is the original clock speed of the 6600?

I've never overclocked anything before, so I'll be getting kinda nervious
post #56 of 74
clock speed was at 250/400
On 290/580 runs stable, though 3dmark03 only got through half way then it crashed. Everything else works great.
at 300/600 it was 99% stable... it did crash once while playing couter strike source... i thought i had fried my card at that point but luckily it survived... i have since backed off to 275/500 after hearing about B's unfortunate story... oh and i've also tried 350/650 which was unstable
post #58 of 74
I had it at 325/580 stable 100% playing EQ2 for about a week.

Rule of thumb, don't kill the memory...keep it under 600..at most 580..

core, keep it under 350...

Thanks guys. When I get it back, I want to make the best of it, without fryin' the thing...

Say worst case senario, what happens if it is fried? Where do I go to buy another one? How much cash we talkin' about?
If you can be as lucky as B, it will cost nothing. But if you send it back for repair how can the guys there find out you did oc the chip, and killed it when it was overclocked on software? And if the GPU has been fried does this mean the whole Mboard being changed in the laptop or can they just take out the GPU?

Just to say hooked up the laptop to the T-V last night and played BIA for an hour, laptop seemed alot cooler esp where the power button and the Asus sticker is.
