Free trial of Acronis True Image

You can use a program called Norton Ghost. I think u can purchase it for download from www.symantec.com. Otherwise you can purchase it with Norton Systemworks. This program will allow you to make an EXACT copy of one hard drive to another and it supports USB and Firewire HD enclosures.

Hope this helps,

You can also use PartitionMagic, which is tried and true (albeit, taken over by Symantec ). I can attest to it personally that ParitionMagic 8 works with external USB drives.

Yeah, it is a bit of a rip off of M$'s site...

I agree with Wip3out -- Ghost will somtimes miss files on certain types of partitions.

Ah...you might also try BootIT NG (there is also a trial version). It says it's compatible with USB 2.0

Another vote for Arconis True Image, I used it to copy over my original laptop drive to a Seagate Momentus 100GB, worked great.

Here's a comparison which might help you. Don't know about freebies, though.

Between ghost and true image I have to go with true image for it's simplicity, better gui, seems like it has more options, and runs smoother. True image lets you adjust the sizes of the copied partions in windows (with a very nice gui design) and I think ghost lets you do that only in dos mode.
