X300 on 6000d - Terrible performance!

Does your 6000d lappy have a horizontal artifact appear on the screen when you use the arrow button to scroll down a webpage, for example the topic listings in this website? Try it on a few different sub-forums here at notebookforums. Keep a close eye on your screen. Keep moving to new pages to push the memory on the graphics card.

Also, has anyone noticed that dragging a small window across the screen rapidly sometimes results in the screen showing a "stuttered" movement of the dragged window. IOW it doesn't move smoothly, but you see it there, then there, then there. Doesn't always happen.

For the first case, that is usually caused by the lcd panel refresh rates. I had a dual monitor setup (a Samsung 19" LCD and a Trinitron 19" CRT) and when scrolling through darker pages, there would be a band of kinda whitish along the middle of the LCD. The CRT was fine though. Then when you stop scrolling, colors would look fine again on the LCD. That could be the problem.

As for the second one, I'm not sure.

"refresh rate" is part of CRT technology not LCD, so a 60Hz refresh rate is a default readout for a LCD screen because there is nothing to read, but one has been asked for. It is a dummy reading. Though LCD's don't have a refresh rate and so don't flicker as a CRT does, they do have a pixel "response time", which impacts on the prevalence of image smear: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/oth...d-guide_2.html.

I've never seen this behavior on any other LCD I have owned. I think is far more to do with the X300 than the LCD.

Have you tried doing a complete reformat of your HD and installing a fresh copy of Windows and the lastest drivers for the x300? It might solve your problem.

Done both, no change.

How come no other 6000d owner is trying this? I bet it's a common finding.

i get no line, before and after reformat.

I don't have this problem at all on my i6000d.

I have the 6000d with the x300 and I dont have this issue either. I run WinXP SP2 and Linux with the flgrx drivers and dont have this issue. You might have some hiccups with the drivers that are installed or you could have a bad video card or lcd.

I cant complain about the laptop really. I knew what I was getting with the x300 and it plays wow just fine and it lets me do my work with no problems. I think the 6000d is a good workhorse and gaming rig for my needs.

Might want to try a fresh format with the all the needed drivers installed with nothing else installed to see what you get.

Is there some utility I can download that'll put the x300 through a set of tests?

Also, please note that the line across the screen only appears when scrolling the screen with my down arrow key (not Page Down). ALSO - first please go to the Control Panel and set keyboard rate to maximum, the way I always do.

Thanks.

Whoa! I set my keyboard Repeat Delay and Repeat Rate back to XP defaults, and I no longer get the line when scrolling down. So, people, please RETRY the experiment with keyboard REPEAT RATE set to FASTEST and DELAY set to SHORTEST. I bet you see the flaw then.

Well, the 1GB RAM could be the key factor .. but anyway, where did you download the Omega drivers? Thanks
post #20 of 41
I opted for the 512MB one stick

I thought the omega drivers didnt have a revision for the new x300+ PCIE mobile chips
