No real difference with these drivers, but maybe a little better

How much Ram do you have Mark?

512MB. I have other lappies here that have less ram but none of these symptoms, but then they also do not use "hypermemory" either.

works fine for me too.

Maybe I haven't described this clearly enough. The flaw is subtle, and only occurs under certain conditions. Oh well...

I thought it was decided that the X300's in the I6000D's do not use this hypermemory, due to the fact that the Cards with Hypermemory were created after the 6000's came to the market?

For some reason I doubt it's the video card. I'm in the market for a laptop right now (well actually later in the summer) so I'm still using my old desktop (p3 1ghz/geforce 5200). Before I "upgraded" to a 5200, I was using a geforce 2mx and didn't even have those problems! If the X300 really is comparable to a 9600, combined with a dothan I don't see how it could have those problems (assuming nothing is defective).

Agreed.

I'm currently running a GeForce 5200 also. My system is a 3.0ghz with 512 of ram. I'm hopping that my 6000D with 1.86Pm with 1 gig ram will peform about on par with this sytem. According to most benchmarks I've looked at, it looks like it should perform the same or better. *Crossing fingers* I guess I'll find out when the laptop comes friday or monday.

did you ever consider maybe YOUR card is defective?

just call dell up and explain the problem and ask for a replacement laptop

The reason why I think it is memory related is that once I've fully scrolled a long page with my down arrow key, and seen the defect, if I then scroll up and down again it does not recur.

Here's another test for 6000d owners: go to Google.com and set your preferences to 100 results per page. Then scroll down the page with the down arrow key (keyboard settings to fastest). Do you notice a slight pause or hesitation at certain points in the page? Watch closely.

Hmmm .. just tested scrolling this forum on my son's 8600, and did not see the flaw. This machine must be screwy. Bugger. I hate dealing with Dell Customer Disservice.

I've notified Dell. I'll keep you all abreast of what happens next.

Update: they are sending me a new Samsung LCD and a new X300 graphics card. Now the fun begins. Anyone got a quick link to a post discussing stripping down this model?

I'm also going to download MEMTEST to make sure this RAM is OK.

PLEASE take a pic of the vid card as you remove it. I hope to god there are future PCIE vid cards that can fit in that space.

Ran MEMTEST -- RAM checked out okay except that after 20 mins or so the temp of the DIMM climbed up into the 50s! Fan came on full blast (that's what warned me). I had to shut down MEMTEST! Thundering typhoons!

Yes, I'll have my camera to hand when I start opening this sucker up.

Replaced the lcd ... removed philips inserted samsung. BIG difference (almost no light leakage, no dark bands at side of screen). Didn't have time to replace graphics card -- too many steps, no time. Still see slight aberration when scrolling, but I've seen it on other screens at Best Buy recently too so may be normal. Glad I replaced panel though ... this one is MUCH nicer :-) Dell supply the cheaper, poorer quality Philips as default. Caveat emptor.

Bye, not coming back here, too many a-holes and teenagers, and not enough moderation.
