Have you tried removing the drive from the bay and reinstalling it? It sounds like it is not seated quite right and the plastic is being flexed such that pressure somewhere is causing it not to release correctly. This is not really likely, but you have to start somewhere.
I have seen this on the units at work and different things cause this. Start with the above and let me know if you still have a problem.
