Accidental coverage? What if i run over my xps-2 with my truck?

I'm just wondering the limits of the Dell accidental damage coverage.
If my lappy falls off my boat into the water will it be replaced?
If my lappy gets accidentally run over by a semi truck?
If my lappy accidentally fall to the ground from a 2 story building?

These examples may sound extreme, but I just want to know if the extra coverage is really worth it. I'm sure that there must be some exceptions to the rule.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

from what I am told any act of stupidity is covered. An actual Dell rep called it "Klutz insurance" when I called and asked about it last week. These are some examples I got from the Dell website

Covered
• You spill liquid on the keyboard
• You accidentally drop the Computer Device
• An electrical surge damages the Computer Device’s internal circuitry
• The LCD/monitor cracks or shatters in extreme temperature

Of course, Dell must be satisfied that the damage incurred was accidental and not intentional in nature. It is stated in the fine print that if they suspect the damage was caused intentionally to claim the warrenty, then it is voided.

agreed, but outside of about 2 dozen hammer marks it would be hard for Dell to prove otherwise.

Now lets not make a "how to scam Dell" thread here.

But there is a lot they could not argue with such as spills and drop damage. I think in only extreme circumstances Dell would void the warranty.

I am sure all that is covered, but I don't think you'll be able to return the notebook in 1000 pieces.

also, if it is intential, then you also face potential fraud charges as well.

just spill water, that's the easist and hardest to proove you did it intentionally

I belive you have to return something like 80% of the notebook even if that's in pieces they dont want broken glass shipped back to them though.

hmm.. well, you could shock it real hard... maybe wire the ac adaptor to a hair dryer, plug the hair dryer in, turn it on.. oops! i dropped it in the tub! oh no! the laptop is ****ed! well, dell, i think you owe me a new laptop!

I've been told that Dell's accidental damage coverage will cover those things so long as you didn't intend for that to happen. A TX state trooper accidentally ran over his department issued D600 after forgetting to put it in the trunk with his other gear. He left it on the ground and backed right over it with his patrol car. Dell replaced the system. As long as you can get most of the Laptop back Dell will replace it.

For every catastrophic Complete Care claim I reckon Dell has HUNDREDS of Complete Care customers that have never used it. They're playing a game of statistics.

if you have a discontinued model, say a 700m what happens?

They should give you the next best option...

equivalent or better

If it fell off a boat how would you prove that to dell? Don't you have to produce the broken laptop?

Thats considered a loss which is something that is not covered by CC. Same goes for theft which will fall into the same catergory.

Yes, like machina is saying, you must be able to send dell back a majority of something that they can remotely identify as being your laptop. I have heard many stories of extreme CC claims and Dell is really good about taking care of their customers in those cases. If you realized how much Dell really pays for these computers, CC coverage is good for all involved. With warranty and CC, you pretty much bought another lappy at their cost so they aren't really losing anything.

But I do agree, Lets not turn this into a "how to scam Dell" thread. Eventually too many scammers will ruin it for everyone.
