I have the ATI Mobiity Radeon X300 and the LG (I believe) and Powerstrip cannot detect the monitor type.

no need to install software to find out what screen you have. There is a much simpler way: Check how many brightness levels you got. If you can count no more than 6 in actual physical brightness (looking at the screen), its an LG. If you got 7, its a Sammy!

Mine has 8 unique brightness settings.

A stupid question: Where do I find the brightness level?

Hit the "Fn" and the up or down arrow to adjust for brightness. If you have Dell Quickset installed, a slider would show up on the bottom right corner. Highest level is 8 and lowest level is 1.

Is the sparkling the same on all LG's or is it peoples' varying perceptions? I checked the part number, and it looks like I've got an lg coming, but I'm going to have to have my family check it out, since I won't be there until June, (jumped at the epp sale). I'll send the links, but am kinda worried that it'll look different to them than to me, or will be very aggravating and I won't be able to get a new one, having passed 21 days. Thanks

I've got the LG screen and for the life of me I can see no sparkles. Might just be me, but whatever others are reporting about their LG screens just ain't happening on mine.

The colors are as deep and vibrant as any laptop screen I've seen. YMMV, but keep an open mind and then judge for yourself with your own eyes.

If I had never read a post on this forum, it would have never occured to me that the LG screen was not the best lappy display I had ever seen. I still believe that, but the power of these forums makes me wonder, almost look for something wrong--even so, I just can't find it.

Btw, I've had my xps since 28 March. You are going to be very happy with your purchase. Read the review posted on [H]ardocp today.

I sold a Gateway 7422GX to buy a 9300, and the display was far better, and it wasn't even WUXGA. I have the LG with sparkles and stuck pixels, but some people get lucky and get an LG with no sparkles or stuck pixels. There just seems to be a lottery out there concerning these screens, and some people win...and some lose.
