M5414 recovery media - Page 2

I guess I'm a bit late to jump in on this... but... I am having the same problem as aparantly everyone else... emachines will not send me the recovery media disks and I can't create them because of the program problem saying that they've already been created. The "patch" download from the ftp site did not seem to fix anything. Is there a way to rig this thing so I can back-up the software? Is there a manual way to do it? HELP!!

As a professional, nothing ticks me off more than a hardware manufacturer that can't support their own hardware. Specially when they literally have NO downloads for it. Since I just went through a bunch of B.S. to find just the right drivers for this machine and this was the only place that even remotely had any information about it, I figured I would save ALL of you with this crappy notebook the headaches that so many have apparently been having with it.

That is all the drivers needed for this notebook in one self extracting archive. It will extract all the drivers to c:\m5414 Drivers\. They are numbered in the order they should be installed (except the WLAN).

This is just a temporary download location. I'm not footing the bill to take care of their support nightmares.

So I just formatted a friend's M5414 laptop and used the downloaded drivers above (THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!). My only problem now is that the SIS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter is not working! When I plug the ethernet cable in, it shows the status going from unplugged to plugged in, HOWEVER, even under IPCONFIG /all in the command prompt, the network adapter shows the MAC address of the card as 00-00-00-00-00-00 and I can not auto-obtain anything...I've tried restart, uninstalling drivers and reinstalling and nothing seems to be working. Any ideas?? This is in windows XP

I found this very helpful and solved my network driver problem on the M5414. I downloaded the D00464-001-001.exe from Gateway's website:

I hope this helps.
