XPS2 - Bluetooth Light Problem

The bluetooth LED(light) is not coming on. I know its working because when I restart the system, I see it come on and then go off.

Any trouble shooting tips for this?

Yea, that's been happening to me with the Wi-Fi light, it will briefly come on and then turn off. The bluetooth light stays on though.

Are you using the Bluetooth... it might be inactive. Go into network properties and make sure the bluetooth is not disabled.

Yeah... everything is enabled. I have the same problem with the wifi light too. Sometimes it comes on, other times it just blinks every few seconds.

It might have something to do with me putting both the wifi and bt cards in. I pulled them from my XPS1 and put them in the XPS2 (as instructed by the dell tech). I didn't know they used the same cards. The drivers used were from the XPS2 cd. Everything works fine, except for the lights. Not sure why.

Deja vu!!

Does BT still work? Nevermind, I see that you said it did.

Anyway, the wifi light on my 9200 went out several times. Called Dell, and they've replaced the palm rest, bottom case, wifi card, and mobo. Then they sent out the 9300, but the mobo seems to have fixed the problem.

Make sure the BT is set to on in the system tray. If that doesn't work try to cycle the wireless cards on and off, Fn + F2 on the 9200/9300. (Not sure about XPS2)

Hope this helps and you get it fixed. And I definately hope you don't have to go through what I had to with my 9200, wonderful laptop that it is.

Same here, seems like a disturbing trend with these Inspirons. Wireless works great, but the green indicator does not.

When I get time tomorrow I will call them and see if there is anything they may have up their sleves to resolve this issue. I really don't want to get it replaced, but those lights are really bugging me now.

I understand completely, check this thread in another forum for what happened with my 9200. The BT light has flickered and it has the same problems, and a few more so that ended up going back and I will talk with Dell Friday to see about what else they can do.

I just started having the wifi-light problem on my 9200 as well. This only happened after I installed the TM350 bluetooth card. I wonder if it has to do with the BT. Here's a question, does everyone who has the wifi-light problem has bluetooth installed as well?

Nope, only have wifi on my 9200. If you update the wifi drivers it's supposed to fix the problem.

I just updated to the latest intel driver that someone posted somewhere, and the problem is still there. Another theory, Dell flashed my bios when I sent it to the depot. Did Dell flash your bios before it started happening?

Nope, and most of the parts on my laptop have been replaced and it still happens. Check my link above to see what they've done. My screenname on i9200forums.com is the same as it is on here.

In fact, I've got a professor who's willing to vouch that the light going off still happens. I just got that as some insurance just in case Dell thinks I'm trying to scam them.

Still no resolve to my issue. I will say that I used the bluetooth module from my XPS1 since dell said it was the same and the wifi. I used the drivers that came with the XPS2 for the bluetooth as well. Everything works, just the light does not come on. I know the light works as I state previously it comes on when you turn the power on.

1) I am assuming the iXPS1 had a TrueMobile 300 BT Internal card - as the TM350 was not made available for it. Is this correct?

2) Dell's download page for the iXPS2 only lists a driver for the TM350.

Unless Dell included the TM300 driver on the CD, you are driving a TM300 with a TM350 driver.

Download (if needed) the TM300 driver from the iXPS1 page, go to the Control Panel and uninstall the BT software, and install the TM300 driver.

Will it fix the BT light? I don't know. I do however recommend NOT mixing-and-matching the BT hardware and BT drivers.

The easy fix is to buy a TM350 from Dell Spare Parts.
