I just did the dell chat to get mine. At first he was saying that I can burn my own copy from the dell software thing, but i really wanted an original disc, so i told him that I would rather not go and pay money to buy CD's to burn something that I payed $79 bucks for (xp pro), and that I should recieve one from dell because i do not take a $79 item lightly. He agreed to ship one out.
Oh, and I requested the CD on sunday i believe, and I got it today, along with dell acessories cd and dell utilities/drivers cd

I just emailed them saying
1) I don't have a burner to burn the image off the HD (which is true, but should work regardless)
2) I don't have the OS CD to reinstall (or in my case MCE2005 DVD)
3) Could you please mail me my copy

It came next day by DHL with all the drivers and software CDs.

Dell did not load the restore function for me to burn a once-only backup, but regardless of this fact I still demanded and received an XP Media Center Edition disk and disks for drivers and applications. I may be mistaken in saying this but it is my understanding they are legally obligated to provide you the disks as you have paid for them. That notwithstanding, it only makes common sense, never mind business sense ,in my opinion, that Dell provide the disks given the substantial sums of money outlayed to buy these machines. Dell is usually accomodating in providing them after the fact and after some runaround, but why jerk the customer's chain and leave a bad taste? This kind of nonsense will come back to bite Dell someday I suspect, I know that it makes them seem less professional in my eyes.

Does anyone have MCE and was able to create the OS CD? Since it is a DVD I don't think they have that option.

At the very least Dell should train the customer service folks about MCE - both the fact that you can't burn it like you can XP home or pro... or how about even the fact that it is an OS (in reference to my experience where they told me MCE was not an OS). Ideally if it doesn't have a "burn image" for the OS they should include the DVD.

Received my copy via DHL yesterday.
