very odd problem with 8790

This last month or so, my 8790 system has been crashing quite regularly. At first I suspected some overheating problems, but I recently cleaned out the heatsink and fan area and continued to have the same problems. Lately, I've been hearing these strange grinding noises coming from around where the harddrive is installed? What's really strange, is that whenever my computer decides to freeze, if I tilt it vertically it suddenly unfreezes and I hear the same strange grinding noises coming from the area. I'm pretty sure I'm having a problem with the harddrive, but I'd like to know why tilting my computer at a certain angle is fixing this problem (unfreezing it). Any ideas?

Change in "gravity point". Also slightly jarring the HDD might have something to do with moving the heads a little bit. If you have toshiba drives, then the one year point for failure is not all that uncommon.
