Fan speed controller for 700m - Page 2

oops. no i did that entirely wrong. You have to install i8kfangui and replace the exe with the i9kfangui.exe download.

Will post back with results.

no good. same results with the i9kfangui.exe file in place. You have to drop the file into the i8kfangui directory and remove a registry key in order to complete the i9k installation. Still have no CPU temperature reporting functionality. Without temperature reporting there is really no good way to control the fanspeed without risking overheating. You can however turn the fan on high/slow/off and that function works. I'm not comfortable doing this though if i can't set temperature thresholds within the program. If anyone finds an alternative proggy to use please let us know.

how come your fan's are coming on constantly? Mine comes on about every couple of minutes or so...
My fan almost never comes on. I might just be in too loud of settings to hear it. I would like to be able to see my temps tho and maybe even turn on the fan at a lower temperature that what is programmed from the factory.
anyone find anything that works well for this on the 700m???
No, no one can find a program that can control the fan automatically on the 700M if you want to control it manually install either i8kfangui or i9kfangui.
CHC can read the temp, and i8kfangui or i9kfangui can control the fan,
surely since both can be done, someone who is sharp with this kind of thing could either complete the capabilities of one of the programs, or make another that can control the fan speed based on temp for the 700m.

Or am I completely oversimplifying the situation?
I'm sure a good progammer might be able to incorporation both codes into one program. The 12kfangui has the source file available for download, but CHC doesn't since the author didn't release it. The CHC author should be able to do it better since he has the 18kfangui freely available.

seems a lot of power programs don't work with the 700m. Does the estimated time remaining work on the 700m? I read that it didn't, although this may have been fixed.
Yes, CHC reports the correct estimated time remaining as far as i can see, though I haven't used the computer on battery much, so don't have much experience in using it on that laptop.

totheunreached, how do you know the remaining battery meter seems to be correct? My discharge rate is always -13.024 (can't remember) from CHC even when I'm idling at 0.700V @ 6x or 0.988V @ 16x, the remaining meter NEVER go over 5:00 hours at full charge. I've the 71WHr 8-cell.

^^^ CHC isn't really accurate with the battery life (hour wise), which I agree with Kev. What I think it does is basically translate the % battery life to a maximum of 5 hours. So if you have 80% battery life left, it'll just say 4 hours left. I just leave the battery life displayed as % because the time is by far inaccurate. I know my 700m can last 5:30 - 6:15 hours (msn, web browsing), good enough for me

It may be that I only have the 4 cell (the new one I ordered has the 8 ) so that may be the difference if there is a 5hr limit or something. And like I said, I haven't played around with it much as it is my wife's computer, just know it seemed to show the time approximately correct at full charge.

Sorry for bring up this thread again. Has anyone found any (new) program that can monitor the temp & control the fan of a 700m???
Nope. Still haven't found any program that does that. Although once you undervolt your CPU, the fan rarely (if ever for me) turn on under normal usage (i.e. web browsing, listening to mp3 on hard drive, typing, etc....). And the fan is pretty much very quite at lowest speed, so I don't really think there's a need for such a program. But it certainly doesn't hurt to have one.

You can monitor the temperature of the 700m using Notebook Hardware Control. Just look at the second CPU Temp (the one in brackets).
