Should I get a T43 ?

Hi,

I have the opportunity to get a T43 for an excellent price, should I get it ? I've been reading about heat issues and the screen not being so bright on the T43's. Can anyone confirm this ?

Its not going to feel cool to the touch after an hour of web surfing... but no laptop will. There arnt any real heat issues with the T43 --- and the screen is definitely not as bright as my desktop, but thats also to be expected. I wouldnt mind if the screen was a little bit brighter, but its not something to not buy a thinkpad for expecially if its for a good deal.

Compared to a T42 a T43 will run its fan more often but the heat emitted from both are generally the same. The screen looks good to me but I don't use a desktop so I can't compare between a desktop screen vs a laptop screen. I have 2 T43's 266872U and they are excellent laptops.

Well, there are some reviews that recommend a T-42 instead.

But IBM really is solid. If Sonoma chipsets in general generate a little extra heat due to having memory running at a higher frequency, then ALL Sonoma systems will (Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Gateway, etc.).

I've been extremely happy with opting for a fully loaded T42 over spending an extra $500 for a similarly spec'd T43.

Been thinking the same question, but I dont have any cool deals in reach either...but will propably replace my sold dell with some new fine lappie and like IBM lappies alot even tho I would have to bite the bone because of their price..and I'm waiting at the same time that a model will have samsung screen in it, suspect they are better than the Haydis ones...?!..anyone know..?..and because the IBM-machines are found in many different "models" even tho they have same or very similar hardware in them..

But I would buy a T43 if it would have more than 1024*786(XGA)-resulution on it, this because dont use any external screen...but then..if the price would be mega-good, I would go for it..=Dmight
