9300 +photography?

Hi, my first post. Just bought a Canon 20D camera and I'm afraid that my tried and trusted Inspiron 3700 won't be up to the job anymore . I really like the reviews and specs of the 9300 and I,d really like to get one. I`m thinking of the 1.86 mhz, 1gb ram, 80gb HD and the 256 video card. On the whole do you think that will it cope reasonably with basic photo editing (I'mgoing to use Elements 3 but don't have any experience with it yet) ?
I remember reading somewhere something about widescreens not being good for photo work could someone please specify. Your thoughts and comments will be greatly appreciated.

hi, well im getting well exactly the same specs your looking at, with the 1920x1200 resolution, well i dont think that photography is a problem with widescreen because for example the images i have are normally 1600 x 1200 so i would assume it would just take that size, no extra stretching, but im not 100% sure, i will be using photoshop, painter and maya for my 9300, performance wise it will be able to cope with it easy, but when i get mine in about 4-7 days i can chk for yah

I use my 9300 (same exact setup as the one you would like with nec dvdrw), and I think it's the best system for doing photowork. Just load up on the ram. THe screen can't be beat. I find that I can view most of my photo's at 1200x1600, and still have room on my screen for tool bars in photoshop. Also, I have the option of making 1920x1200 photos for those pieces that need a wide format. I do not like the LG screen b/c of the harsh sparkling, but the samsung screens work for me with minor adjustment.

While I don't have the big dollar camera you do, my Olympus 8080-WZ works great with this laptop. I regularly use Photoshop and PS Elements (depends on what I'm trying to do when I use that proggie) and the widescreen format is great for photos IMO. I think its a good match and you will like working on pictures on it.

I have the Canon Digital Rebel and the the widescreen on my XPS2 is no problem with photo editing.

Adobe Photoshop works smoothly on the 9300. No problem. I only have 512mb RAM and it is still fast. Might upgrade to 2gb just for the fun of it. Since you will be working with images, you will want to have the RIGHT color and at first, i have problem with this...so I played with the settings using Nvidia's settings and PowerStrip. But if you want absolute color profile, invest on a Spyder 2 ColorVision if you depend on working with images and/or pics on your laptop. Otherwise, stick with a Mac G5.

I get my 9300 WUXGA thursday and I'm planning on using it for all my photo editing as well (I own dual 20D's (insert headbang emote here)) And I'm going to use it for my video editing as well. I'll post when I get it and let you know how it is.

I heard the 9300 LCD screen can only display 256k colors instead of 16mil. Would this make any difference using it edit digital photos?

A fellow 20D user. I am shooting with a 20D. Have you started your lens collection yet? heh Widescreen is not a problem I have been using a widescreen laptop of different kinds over the past 2 years with np. My XPS2 will serve me well with photog.

Lens's are liek drugs once you start its hard to stop. Here is my collection so far:

20D
580ex flash
100-400L IS USM
24-70L USM
16-35L
50mm 1.4
10-22 USM

Thinking about picking up the 500L prime, not sure yet.

I use my 9300 with my 1DMkII and D60. It works just fine. I shoot only in RAW and the file conversion times are acceptable.

Totally agree about the addiction. I've calmed down a bit but it was hard in the beginning.

1D Mark II
D60
550EX
15 Fisheye
50/1.4
85/1.2L
100 Macro
17-40L
24-70L
70-200/2.8L
100-400L
Gitzo Monopod
Gitzo Tripod

+ lots of other accessories.
