Review: TurboWagon's Z71V

Well I have only had the z71v for about 3 hours but I am really loving this thing!!

It is VERY quiet and FAST.

I will write a review after I spend more time fiddling with all the cool stuff it has.

UPDATED:

Well I have been playing with all the features and i would have to say that its quite faster than I thought. At only 2.0ghz it seems to accomplish basic tasks (installing programs, internet use,gaming.e-mail,dvd's) just as well as my area 51 with a p4 3.2ghz. It is makes alot less noise than my alienware does (geez I think it has like 6 fans )

The screen is flawless and I haven't noticed sparkle or a dead pixel that I can tell.

3DMark 2005 demo version test results: 1482 on battery power with 71% remaining

Power4gear set to gaming

The overall construction of the notebook is VERY solid. As someone pointed out in another review I think it could withstand a drop, not that I plan on testing the theory mind you.

The carrying case that it comes with seems to be of very high quality. This one one of the first things I was going to get as an accesory but I'll use the Asus case thank you very much.Has lots of pockets for the charger, my usb mouse, lan cable and owners manual.

Thanks to all (smilepak,Olie,B net ) for all the concise reviews and feedback making my research for this laptop loads easier.

All this for under 2 grand is a steal of a deal in my book

Thanks guys!!

I don't hear a PEEP from it. My alienware area 51 sounds like a damn jet engine so the Asus doesn't make a peep as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't played much with the setting yet but I will look into that

How do you make sure it's dynamically switching? I thought this was something that couldn't be altered with the Dothans.

Make sure it's on the "Game" Profile with Power4Gear...that's when the CPU dynamically switches

Hey guys I can't figure out how to get the power4gear working.

When i left click on the battery its not an option and I hit the hot key and nothing happens.

Do I need to install a driver for power4gear to work?

Did you install power4gear from the CD?

Asus Z71V smallissues

I just got my Z71V, awesome lappy. SCreen is really nice and its fast.

Just a few glitches,

For some reason the chipset driver on the CD seems to be missing a usb inf file, or so it says during install, I want to download the latest driver from Intel but wnat to make sure that its the 915 PM chipset and not the GM?

Also, when I boot up, for the first minute or so I have no internet connectivity through the wired nic, it gets ip addr. right away but no intenet for a while.....

Any sugestions would be greatly apreciated.

it's the 915PM chipset (the 915GM has integrated graphics). for your internet issue, I don't know. I've been using wireless, which is ready to go in 5 seconds or so. Maybe there's a conflict between your ethernet and wireless? Does it go faster with wireless off?

Power4Gear is a junk. I didn't even bother installing it.

I am using the laptop w/o it. ehhe

I don't think it's junk... it can be helpful. Plus, I don't like having a hotkey that does nothing...
So I'd rather have it installed than not-installed...

Took seven days to deliver to Toronto, Ontario via UPS Ground.

smile: Power4Gear actually appears to be quite good. Why don't you like it?
