Loose screen on M68xx / Gateway 74xx

So, I've got an M6811.

Nice machine, except for this @#$*@# screen.

I've got the Flicker of Dewm, and my screen hinge is also very loose -- bumping the machine can make the screen "collapse" backward.

Any way (Compman55?) to fix this? Can I do it at the same time as I fix the flicker?

Yes, when you have it apart you can try to repair the hinge. Find out where it is loose and try to use an epoxy to hold the pin in the part it is not supposed to pivot. I cannot possibly describe how to repair the hinge itself as I have not actully pulled this style apart.

On a side note, when you crimp the wiring harness, do both plugs. The one for the MB and the Inverter. I did not, and the flicker came back, after crimping both, it has been good for over 1 month.

Thats something that you can call eMachines tech support for and they would be able to service the system for you.

First step is to see if the unit is under warranty. If it is, then let emachines fix it. If not, then by all means there is no reason whatsoever to have them touch it. It would be like flushing money down the toilet, especially if you have enough skills to do it yourself. Getting the hinges off is easy, making a repair on them may not be very easy.

However, adeal on ebay has some from a m520 that will work on ours.

I had this problem myself a while ago. It was related to the BAD HINGE problem on the M680x series notebooks. eMachines has a recall/repair of some type out to fix it. My screen did the same flickering, loss of brightness thing as well. Once the hinge's were fixed I never had the problem again. Plus they tighten up the hinges so it isn't loose anymore.

I would call them, because I think it is fixed, even out of warranty at no charge.

Good Luck!!!

Are you saying that you had it fixed out of warranty??

No, But I remember them saying that EMachine's put a recall on it for all damaged units. Give them a call to check. They should be able to tell you in a minute or two.
