It's a rebaged Nvidia 6800. Runs DX9 stuff swell. Not much time for gaming right now (dang research paper) but ran City of Heroes a couple of nights ago several hours with no problems. Smooth as silk, felt as good or better than my desktop Radeon 9800. Others have reported decent performance in Doom 3 etc. Have not tried it but I think you can even use the stock Nvidia drivers.

Don't underestimate a docking station! It is so wonderful to convert from dual screen, full size keyboard, MX700 mouse, 250GB external hard drive, gig ethernet, hit undock, and move out to the porch with my wireless enjoying the changing colors of the sunset while continuing to work. Then back inside boom full desktop environment......

Unless you are setting this thing up in your dorm room and leaving it there, get the M70, or something else that docks, get an external 19" LCD (instead of a monster 17" laptop) that can do portrait for writing papers. Get a 3 year waranty, and dell complete care in case you drop the thing and you will be all set....

^ what he said

and if you can wait, i just ordered an M70 (2ghz, 1GB RAM, 7200rpm HD) and will put it through its paces when it comes in on Monday

i'll give u some reallife CS:S and Doom 3 benchmarks then if u want. i've seen Doom3 benchmarks on here but otherwise mostly all 3dMark score's which mean little if you're worried about a specific game (the gpu to cpu ratio, etc.)

you may want to check out the Dell Outlet; they are offering FREE SHIP + 2% off using DPA + $275 off Precision Workstations (including M70) + NO Tax ...... you can also get the accidental care and upgraded warranty there too

M70 is probably the best combination of power/size/weight/build quality you're going to find right now. It has the components of the DTRs in a much smaller form factor. Only thing I don't like on mine is the screen, which is why I am sellling it and keeping a Sony for the time being...but that's another thread altogether.

I've got WUXGA on my D800 and for me it's too high of a resolution for a 15.4" screen.

For the M70 I opted for the WSXGA (1680xwhatever) and so far I like it a lot better. Nice screen almost perfect but a little dim spot in the lower right hand corning.

I would have gone with an even lower resolution (better performance at native res in games) but the low res screen had terrible specs for viewing angle and brightness......

I think I agree about the WUXGA being too high res on it. Personal choice though.
