I have the Hitachi 80Gigs, 7200rpm
Not bad I think.

....aaaaand here's the result of Hitachis 7K100 (100 GB, 7200/min, silent mode), Inspiron 9400:

15.3 ms, 41.4 MB avg read, 114.2 MB Burst.

Not too shabby either....

I just ordered an e1705 with a 80gig 7200 rpm (will it be hitachi) and I am considering changing it for a 120 gig 5400 rpm (will it be toshiba?).

What are your thoughts on the speed vs capacity discussion?

I have read elsewhere that usually there isnt too much difference but comparing the hitatchi and toshibo on here they seem worlds apart (111 mb/s vs 41 mb/s).

I've got 7.2 k hitachi 100GB SATA, and it shows 41.5 average, and you can easly check parameters of your HDD by writing down model type and trying to serch one in google, it will shows you all

This is a Fujitsu mhv2040 refurb. The original samsung died after 1 hour in my Inspiron 6000.
Access: 22.2
average read: 28.8

a little faster than the Toshiba with

random access = 20.8ms
average read = 31.9 MB/s
burst = 114.2 MB/s
