Dead/Stuck pixels GALORE!!! - Page 4

WOW!! PCTorque is the best! Laura is AWESOME! I had that *slightly cynical* post up for less than five min before Laura had sent an e-mail to Sager for me. I've just got off the phone with her, offering my thanks.

Yes!! I've talked to a living person about my computer problems!!

SEE!!

Though I am sure one of the last things the folks at PC Torque (and most of the other Sager resellers are also very good) want is to hear your pissing and moaning, the VERY LAST THING they want to hear is someone else telling them about a client pissing and moaning about them, especially on the net. If you don't speak up, they can't take care of your problem. As with most small businesses, they can't afford bad word of mouth. If you have a problem, they will do what they can to fix it. I've found SAGER is much the same. No, they are not perfect, but they do try and when they fail, they really do try to take care of the problem so their clientele will remain the fiercely loyal and dedicated group its been so far. Despit some of the numbers being bandied about, SAGER doesn't sell units in the 100Ks a year. Its more like 10Ks a year and the low end of that. They are not an IBM or MS. They really do have to take care of us and every single sale counts for them.

But like I said, if you don't bitch, they won't know there's a problem and it would be unlikely they'd fix something they don't know about. That goes on back up the line. Hell, even Hitachi can't afford a bad rep on their screens. Sure, they are about the only show in town right now, but there's a lot of competition coming up and they need brand loyalty as much as the next guy.

Hitachi doesn't make the wide angle screens. I'm pretty sure IDTech does.

Well, I maintained a zen-like calm concerning the screen on the 5680 that was just delivered a couple hours ago. I figured that I'd probably get a bum pixel or two and figured I'd just live with whatever Sager delivered and only request replacement if it was within their guidelines (5 or more bad pixels or one in the central region).

But I was fortunate to get one with a perfect screen.

And, no, I'm not willing to trade. I'll stick with the hand (PC) that was dealt me.

Bunsen out....

In case anybody is polling the number of notebooks shipped with dead or stuck pixels, you can add my name to the list. My brand new, right out of the box, 8890 which arrived yesterday has what appears to be a dead pixel or one stuck on dark blue about 2 inches from the top left corner. Rubbed it, still there. Although I swear it wasn't there when I first booted it up? Anyway. Really puts a damper on my new toy high.

To top it off I was walking down the lcd monitor aisle at Circuit City today on my way to get an optical mouse and all the perfect "dead pixel free" displays where taunting me... I swear they were !!! :-)

Doesnt anyone find this alarming?? I wonder whassup with Sager and the LCD manufacturer...I hope these are not substandard LCD's...the only thing I really like about my Sager is the LCD (even though it is the old UXGA - it still rocks!!)
YES,
I find this alarming. I am also amazed at the cult like following here. I'm using PCTorque because they seem to be squared away and seem to be on top of customer support. But, I can't believe Sager is accepting screens from its supplier with dead pixels. My 5680 will be here Friday. they are going to get it right back if there are any dead pixels. I'll cross my fingers.

Did you get the SXGA, SXGA+, or UXGA screen?

Well remember that dead pixels may take a day or so before they appear so they could be shipping flawless screens. Not to mention how hard it is to see these things in the first place. If you don't have a dead pixel after a week you most likely won't ever encounter it.

Anyways, why is there another dead pixel thread? Didn't we beat this topic into the ground already Besides, using this forum to gauge the total number of machines with dead pixels is not and will never be an accurate representation of the actual numbers. There's just so many factors to consider. like:

-people generally post if they have problems as opposed to none
-there is a significantly larger user base now than 5 or 6 months ago
-this board is probably just a small part of the total sager userbase
-and as so many mentioned...dead pixels have been with laptops as far back as I can remember.

Sagermadness:

I think its an SXGA Screen. I ordered around labor day so I think I got the original LCD before the SXGA's became scarce and they started using SXGA+.

sxga screen wireless 'b' but not a single dead pixel.

a while back a blue pixel was apparent on the screen (not in the middle of the #) and i got rid of it by pressing in the screen.

no dead pixels since then

ONE little dead pixel, bottom right corner of the screen when displaying blue colors. After showing it to my wife, she told me that I was anal for even noticeing the tiny spot.

This 5680 will be my 6th laptop. I can only remeber one laptop a few years ago (Toshiba Portege 3015) that had a dead pixel. It was quite annoying.... If we continue to accept dead pixels from the manufacturers, then they'll keep making them. If they keep getting them back, they might just find it more cost effective to fix the problem. Then again, I might get my 5680 on Friday and it'll be flawless and then what can I rant and rave about??
