700m memory

Hey guys,

Sorry if this question is repetitive.

I'm a little lost in trying to get a 512MB stick for my Dell 700m.

A couple of questions.

1. Crucial, Cosair or Kingston, which is the better brand?

2. I know I need PC2700 DDR333 200pin, but I keep seeing 184 pin, are they interchangable/compatible?

3. Lastly, what's a decent price for all the 512MB? Any suggestions where to buy it?

Thanks for the help!

1. I have never had any problems with Crucial. In fact, it's the only memory I have bought in the last 3 tears.

2. You need PC2700 in 200-pin SODIMM's. The 184-pin modules are made for desktop PC's.

3. Here is a link to crucial memory specified and guaranted to work for your 700m. It is $83.41 w/free shipping.

Hope that answered all you questions

I'll second ViolatorX's vote for Crucial.

Third vote for Crucial. I always buy Crucial if I can.

Thanks everyone for the replies. So I guess Crucial it is. Is the $88 price tag a decent price for the 512MB stick?

One additional question. I was reading on some site that said if the computer uses DDR ram that it is a better idea to buy 2x256MB than just one 512MB stick, is this true?

Again, thanks

I think you are referring to Dual-channel and I'm not sure if the 700m supports DC or not. However, I would definately go with 1x512 right now over 2x256. The main reason behind this is if you need more memory later on, you will have to take 1 stick out to add it in. With 1 512 stick, you can add another 512 or even a 1gb stick if need be while running in conjunction with the original stick.

512 is pretty much the minimum for new PC's and 1gb is becoming the norm nowadays. Besides, the performance increase of Dual-channel rarely ever exceeds 5%.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I ended up ordering a 512MB stick of Kingston from Buy.com for $74, but when I looked at it again today it's $93. I guess I caught some sale or something.

I also have always bought from Crucial and have had very good luck.
As matter fact the 700M I just ordered for my wife, I jumped over and got some from Crucial for it.
