Clicking Hard Drive, Fujitsu 100 GB 5400 RPM

Anyone else have heard of this? Is this normal? I know normally clicking noises mean hard drive problems of some sort... and there have been problems with the Hitachi ones/60GB 7200 rpm. Other than clicking once every 5 minutes or so, haven't had any other problems with this. My hard drive model is Fujitsu 100 GB, 5400 RPM on a 9300

Do you think it's normal? I mean, as long as I know that it's not indicating my hard drive is about to die, I am fine with it... otherwise, I better hurry up and go ask for Dell to exchange it.

It's normal, but if you are still concerned you could use the diagnositics disk (or F2) to run a diag on the disk to be sure. I believe if you have s.m.a.r.t. turned on in the bios you'll get informed if there are disk errors that could cause a potential failure.

I was most of the way through this post before I realized that only the first two tiny lines were the post itself and the rest was your sig. Sheesh.

Do you guys all have the Fujitsu brand hard drive also? Also, Horse, did you download that utility from fujitsu website? I wasn't able to find it.

Mine is a Fujitsu, but I haven't gotten my hands on it yet.

I have the Fusitsu 80GB 4200rpm. It is silent as a mouse. This is in a room where I can literally hear a pin drop. I had a 9300 with a 60GB 5400rpm in it. That drive clicked alot. Since hard drives are so prone to failure, my suggestion would be to have Dell replace it with a drive that doesnt make mechanical noises.

Most hard drive manufacturers say that drive noises like clicking and thunking are signs of potential failure.
