Impossible. A laptop card IS a desktop card inferior in one of the other or all (heat, pipes, clockspeed).

I will clear it up for you since the other guy hasn't. He is refering to your human eye cant see higher than 60fps. Which isn't entirely untrue. There is a large thread about this topic. The human eye really can't see higher than 25-30FPS. Thus making your statement correct, but also not making you sound knowledgable. Do a search for the thread.

edit
Forgot to say, the guy that got his XPS2 for $1700. CRAZY good deal.

We buy the fastest video cards to be able to play the newest games smooth on highest settings idiot.I mean hole. And not to pass 60 fps of your hole.
I think everyone is safe with the Ultra's ,this video card is awesome and will be for while ,is like having a ferrari and be worry about the new Lamborghine.

Perhaps the AVERAGE Human may not, but being like a bellcurve, there ARE people that can see above 60 FPS. Its easy, and I'm one of them. Its a perception thing. It feels and looks smoother @ around 100 fps.

Exactly, maybe 1 Standard Deviation, 68% can't see above 60 FPS, but the other 16% can (assuming that the bottom 16% cant see above 40 FPS or something)

Has everyone forgot about this Regarding XPS2.....

"Dell's technology promise to provide customer with an optional graphics upgrade if a new graphics card is introduced."
San Francisco, February 24, 2005

Thats only relevant if the ATI proves to actually be faster. There will eventually be something faster, but dell has told us we get to upgrade.
No worries here.

Although, I probably wont be upgrading for a year or so when the upgrade card is cheeper like the mr9800 is for the XPS1. Ultra runs WoW at full settings 1920x1200 in areas with 50+ other people around with Zero stutter.
So i have no need........yet.

I guess you get a 3rd grade mumble with that 3rd grade comment...hehe

I'll wait for a more credible source before I comment about the difference. The Inquirer is not exactly a trustworthy site. Also the fact that they believe that the XPS2 is a paper launch shows how ignorant they really are.

*edit* Also where in the article does it say the ATI card will beat the Ultra? It simply states that it will challenge it, and to wait for both to be out before buying.

You just don't get it do you? You contribute less to this board than I do, which is pretty damn low, and you just won't shut up.

1. Human eyes and visual systems are *almost* all exactly alike as far as detecting motion and other standard bullshit, like edges, lines and planes. Vision scientists do experiments using 1-3 subjects and routinely generallize to the entire population...

2. Human beings can indeed tell the difference between things that go 30FPS and things that go 130FPS with a whole bunch of discriminability in-between. What yer getting confused by is the fact that animation (flipping still frames quickly to make them appear to be moving) first appears fluid at around 29-30FPS...there is a difference between saying that still frames mesh together to mimic real motion at 30FPS and saying that human beings can't recognize the difference between animation running at x and y speeds.

3. All of this is moot, because the real reason it is important to have games run MUCH HIGHER than 30FPS is because games have VARIABLE scenes that cause the framerate to fluctuate (shoot up and dip down)...if yer running at 60 fps you are much less likely to dip below the threshold for smooth animation and see the 'slide show' effect...also, even if you FIXED the FPS at 30 and dynamically adjusted the graphics quality to constantly maintain this speed, you would still FEEL lag in a game because sometimes YOUR HAND needs to twitch must faster than 30 FPS can MOVE on the screen...think about jerking the mouse to flip yer guy 360 degrees and precision-blast a person UT2004 that's running behind you...no matter how hard you yank the mouse, if yer stuck at 30FPS and the other guy is running at a fixed 160FPS, he will blow your head off everytime assuming he's just as good and has a similar ping...

4. Finally, I'm not going to argue this point anymore since it's been done to death in other places on this board, and people still yap about 'Why do we need anything but on-board GPUs? You can't see higher than 30fps anyway...' blah blah...go peddle yer turnips in another field, yeah? sheesh...

I'm happy with my GeForce Go 6800, I refresh my notebook every year, meaning sell it and buy a new one. So I'll always have the latest I can get every year.
