i'm looking for a laptop for my nephew for college and have narrowed it down to two. can anyone tell me about their personal experiences with the following? toshiba qosmio(f15-av201), toshiba satellite(m45-s331). he needs 60+hd, 1gb ram, centrino technology, dvd/rw, at least 3-4 hr. battery life, nice screen size 12-15, decent graphics, etc. he will be using this mainly for school. thanks for the feedback.

I purchased this Nook Color specifically because I was taking a very long trip to China and wanted to be able to read without carrying a ton of books. I also liked that it had email capability...

This is an awesome mouse with an excellent grip for a mid sized to large size hand. Right-handed, comfortable, trendy, upscale, red, responsive, functional, task oriented. Overall A+++

This is good Ram and fast. I like it for my Clevo / Pro-Star WP150HNQ. Both thumbs up!

If he's going to be taking it to class alot, I'd say stay away from the Qosimo becasue lugging around an 8.6 lb computer all day WILL be a drag, especially in addition to a couple of books. Based soley on that I'd say go with the satelite -- the 2 1/2 lb difference will be noticed.
You may even want to take a look at the Tecra line since they are designed for the mobile executive. They're made to take a bit more punishment on the road and a longer lifecycle. The S2 has a 15" screen, the A4 a 15.4" wide screen and the M3 has a 14" screen. All of them are configuable with the other specs you mentioned and the M3 seems to be the lightest & most portable (~5lbs).
Regardless of what you decide on, since most campuses now have wifi netowrks, make sure to get the wifi card option (which is only like $15 more). Most universities also have arrangements with major notebook manufacturers (mostly Dell & IBM) and offer notable discounts to students so you may want to take a look at what his college has to offer.

the m45 doesnt have the best graphics, for you i would suggest a tecra s2 or an a4 with the 128mb graphics options. with that the usable lifespan of his lappy will be alot longer and he will happily play the latest games in his (should be limited) free time. they are reasonably light and would provide him with plenty of power for his needs.
