i'm looking for a laptop for my nephew for college.i've narrowed my search to 2 laptops-sony vaio vgn-s360 and sony vaio vgn-fs570. does anyone have personal experience with either of these? he needs 60+hd, 1gb ram, centrino technology, dvd/rw, 3-4 hrs. battery life, 12-15 screen size, decent graphics, etc. this will be used mainly for school. thanks for your input.

I have owned a Dell Inspiron 5100, 4150, 8200, 300m, LAtitude C600, Asus M6BNE, Sony S360 (see my sig for a comparison review of S360 vs M6BNE). The S360 is by far the best laptop out of those... small, light (4.2lbs), sexy laptop with an incredible screen and all of the power of an Asus M6BNE.

S360 comes with 80GB hard drive, centrino technology, capability to upgrade to 1GB, DVD/RW (if you get the S360P model), 3-4 hours of battery life, 13.3" WXGA screen w/XBrite, Radeon 9700 Pro for video (GREAT graphics). The only complaint I have about the S360 is that it comes with a slow 4200rpm 80GB hard drive. If you are happy w/4200rpm, the S360 is a good choice. If you don't want the 4200rpm hard drive, I would recommend you consider the S270 (same thing as S360, except it can be customized from sony.com).

Is it just me. My s360p came with a DVD/cd-rw combo drive not a dvd-rw drive.

This laptop is awesome by the way. I have really enjoyed playing with it.

the screen is beautiful it is very light. I am very happy with the performance and the battery life. The only game I have played on it is WoW. For college there is some fan noise. So some people might not appreiciate it. Though I barely notice it. If he is only going to be writing papers and such with it I don't see why he would really need a DVD burner. It is a nice to have.

The s270 is configurable so you might want to look in that direction. You can get a DVD burner then.
