i'm looking for a laptop for my nephew for college and have 2 in mind. can anyone give me their opinion from personal experience with the hp pavilion dv1240us or the hp pavilion dv4040us? he needs 60+ hd, 1gb ram, centrino technology, dvd/rw, 3-4 hrs. battery life, 12-15 screen size, good graphics, etc. this will be mainly for school. thanks for your input.

I can speak for the 1240. Ive had mine about 3 weeks now and love it. Its lightweight and has a great screen. 1gig ram 1gig HD dvd+- 14 in screen. Circuit city has them with a $50 rebate I think right now.

The dv1240 will be a pound lighter and a lot smaller than the dv4040. It will also be easier to carry around especially around the campus and take it to class if he's taking notes on the laptop.

Both the laptops have integrated graphics which are not the best but if he is not doing some graphics intensive tasks(gaming) the GPU is OK.Of the 2 the DV4040 has the better newer graphics system.

I just ordered a DV4000 for my daughter for school. When I called HP Shopping & ordered it they knocked about $100.00 off for student disc. & also threw in a student accsy. bundle ( HP backpack-Kenssington lock-USB mouse w/changeable covers) for free! Now your talking my kinda price! Just thought i'd pass it along.

Hey, I'm buying my son a laptop for when he goes off to college. When you called up HP did you have to give a student number of something, or did they just give you the discount without asking anything? Thanks
By the way,
I'm looking at the ZV6000, Do you have any comments on that laptop? Thanks again.

the hp nc6000 is ****ing awesome. 14" screen, less than 5 lbs, 5+ hours of battery life on the small 6 cell battery, also can't forget the radeon 9600 put in this. I don't see anything better! I love mine.

I just bought the DV1240 from HP for a second laptop to travel with. I diid alot of research and the HP came out on top. If you're a member of Costco, they have a great price on a 1.7 mHz at $1299.00.
