Thoughts on the 600 vs 700M

Damn I know, I searched a million times and read everything front to back. Heres my deal, I have an oldddddddddd Inspiron 2650 that is slow and I mean slow. I was set on to 700m till i saw a few pics of the size difference. WOW the 6000 is noticeably bigger but I think I like that. Who has a 6000 here and what are the biggest drawbacks to it. It will be used for around the house, sitting in the gazebo at night and just a new toy I guess. I like a break from sitting in the chair all day and working, when I can sit in my bed and work. Thanks guys

Oh ya is there any drawbacks to buying from the Dell outlet, I bought my 19 inch flat panel and have had it for quite some time with no issues. Also on behalf of my old Inspiron2650 I can say it has never once broken, nothing, nada, zip.

Thread title has 600 vs 700, not 6000. If it were the 600 vs 700, I'd say 700m easy. Now the 6000 vs 700m is different. This is going to be more personal preference. Are you going to game on it? I spend 8 hrs a day on laptops, mostly Dell. I bought a 700m for casual home use, and as a portable DVD player. It is stunning. The screen shows far greater detail and contrast than a standard LCD. But, it is smaller, and the keyboard is unliked by many. I am a hunt and peck typer, so it the key size and placement is no big deal to me, I'm looking anyway. I didn't want to lug some 8 pound beast around (12 lbs after you ad a bag and "stuff" in the bag. I'm looking at it right now next to a D810 with a 15" WUXGA widescreen.....and I prefer the 700m.
Again, it's really your deal. Processing power wise, both can be configured nicely. If it were my only machine, I would get a bigger screen for sure. But it's a toy, and a great looking one.

ya i was too late to edit thread title, Im not looking at the 600 I mean the 6000 vs 700M I wont be lugging this anywhere really, I work from home and travel very rarely. 700M is really cute. I dont game at all really, not in the last 6-8 months anyway. I guess it comes down to processing power. Like I said my old inspiron 2650 is a complete dog, and if I end up with something similar I will give up on laptops forever. Just need something fast, reliable and can give me the speed I need in browsing, email and stuff like that.

Both the 6000 and 700m are nice. You can get a better graphics card, but not a good one with the 6000d. You can configure both processor speeds to be the same. The 6000 will end up being cheaper, and you get a 15.4" screen (WXGA/WSXGA/WUXGA) while the 700m is 12.1" (WXGA). So, it is just personal preference as lcseds. But the good thing with the 700m is that it is lighter so in case you do want to travel, it is great. Battery life for both are about the same. You can't get integrated bluetooth with the 700m, but you can with the 6000. So, it depends on your budget.

I don't own a 6000, but I do own an I8600 (specs in sig), which is very similar, dimension wise. As with the 6000, the I8600 has a 15.4" screen and weighs about the same.

The primary reason I went with the 8600 is for gaming. It gave me more options to configure my laptop to do gaming. On top of this, I use it for email, surfing, Photoshop, and all the regular stuff. It handles all of it beautifully and I'm very happy with it.

The processing power on both should be comporable. Also to note (if you're new to Pentium-M's) is the fact that the P-M's operate much more efficiently than their P4 counterparts. I've heard a rough rule-of-thumb is that you multiply your P-M by about 1.5 to get a P4 equivalent. (That is, my P-M 1.8 GHz operates at about the same as a P4 2.7 GHz. It really depends on the application, though.)

I think it's going to be a choice of laptop screen size and weight. The 700m is definitely nice for carrying around the house and taking on trips. Now, I take my 8600 with me around the house, so it's not as if it's a huge deal, but it is a heavier machine.

I had a 6000d but for some reason, I returned it and kept the 700m instead.

Yeah mine was the same thing, except 256RAM. When I got an iPod I told it to take a hike - I needed USB 2.0 ports BAD.
