I was not trying to give you grief as you say. Just wanted to see if you live in a glass house from time to time?

This should be the VERY last place in which you should come looking for "normal." If normal has a place in the universe, then the "NBF Off Topic" is about 100 Billion light years away.

Best post in Off Topic this week. Darq, you have defined a generation of NBF members with this post.

And notice I did not waste the post by saying: POT'D. Which is what it is.

gsferrari and other dial-up users. This firefox extension should should be useful to you. It sits below the address bar and you can quickly turn off several features that will make your browsing experience better:

You can download it here:

Btw, my beloved dial-up ISP, Access4Less, is being taken over by evil Earthlink

I gave reasonable, if somewhat global explanations to all your queries, but Mich had the ultimate fix. None of this should be new to you, you have over 4,400 posts. It's a subjective, but ultimately grounded view that the moderators do an excellent job maintaining order on these forums. You've passed this statement up several times, although you have managed to drop all your other "charges" against the members and seem, now, penultimately fixated on signatures - which usually leads to the conclusion that the rest of the topics of "concern" we're simply added bait to get to the real problem: You want the web to cater to 56kville. It's a valid need, as NetZero and AOL seem obsessed with maintaing a steady stream of cheap internet access with "accelerators" and other fashionably fake speed enhancements - on a web that wants domain users to burst the doors wide open with flashy graphics, shockwave animation, and high quality audio and video files.

I've tried to "worldview" the fate of 56k'dom, which is silly, 'cuz it's been obvious for nearly a decade that as bandwidths increase, so has the need for speed, leaving four wire access slowly spitting up broadband dust.

Which circles us all the way back to the forum. Looks like Mich and Rk, and NBF have offered lots of solutions for you in a world of high bandwidth and luscious sigs. You gonna try 'em, or are you gonna make sure your new rig comes with a 10/100 ethernet card?

Sure, that and a 56k PCI modem. BTW that was a very eloquent statement, at it's best scholarly in fact.

I havent dropped any charges against the members. This place is still not going to pass through filters at schools and several offices. NBF doesnt work from my workplace...HeadFi works.

As for my being obsessed with sigs - this is just one piece in the puzzle. Faster load times is good for everyone and I havent learnt anything about any member from their sig image - so I cant see the point in having one bigger than a "reasonable" size...

Somewhere in the midst of your eloquent response I realized that THIS is what I miss from 99% of the posts here on NBF. I have seen posts about some college kid who wants the "God Laptop" to inane posts about disfigurement, god/religion and inbreeding...on a tech forum.

Which just leads me to wonder about where "quality" posts can be found. It is like wading through a pile of s**t to find a gem.

Your post...is a gem...

You guys make me blush , and I'm most definitely gonna agree with you that reading posts around here can be a fog of useless info, especially in the General Notebook forum, where all forums are supposed to converge in the middle and discuss the technical beauty, future undertakings, and troubleshoot the best laptops available, or soon to be available on the web - and in the world.

As far as Off Topic is concerned, I'm not sure what to say. It's an NBF microcosm of expanded opinions. Many of which have the same affect as and Alienware guy getting together with a Dell guy: infighting on the boards. But it's still Off Topic, and it's a place for members who have resolved laptop or desktop problems, or purchased that perfect laptop to come and continue to be a relevant member of the forum if they see little reason to keep lurking and posting in their individual forums.

I would be disheartened if NBF chose to offer only tech forums without the creamy goodness of Off Topic. There are just too many different laptop forums here, creating a huge cross-section of the global population, resulting in more people with more diverse opinions. Without Off Topic, I fear some of the opinions expressed here would spill into other tech sections more easily than they already have, making the wade through the sludge that much deeper.

Exemplary posting can only happen if the intelligent multitude of NBF members continue to create interesting, thought-provoking threads like this. But I ain't gonna lie, I love the banana.

We need off-topic for sure...the community is held together by this section of the forums...really. We also need to show each other more respect in our communication...not be afraid to make concessions when we think the other person is right...or when we are not sure about ourselves.

I often find people who are unwilling to acknowledge a good post or a good idea. If it conflicts with their thoughts then it is automatically rubbished and things get pretty nasty.

Im not saying CHANGE because I say so - all I want is a little more investment in the thought process

Cheers guys!
I dont think your right so I wont be changing I have no problems with acknowledgeing good post's and good ideas.

You started this thread saying this is what I want changed and we should do it.

You made a good case but it is pointless because of all the above mentioned options for you to fix the problems without effecting the rest of us. So there is no problem.
