Problem with HT and the bios..

I have a 4760 and love it. Just recently I started getting some blue screens in windows. At first it seemed to happen only when I was moving my laptop. I thought maybee something was loose inside causeing the problem. Now it is just random. Everyonce and awhile it will get stuck in a loop and windows will not start at all. When I go into the bios, some how HT had been turned off. It has turned it self off twice. any ideas?

Do you have any anti virus programs on your 4760?

If the unit is fully powered up and the BIOS settings are getting changed, and the system is locking up I can only think of 3 causes:

1. Bad memory chip(s)
2. Virus
3. Bad video driver install

Run Norton and see what comes up. Just as an extra precaution, change your BIOS setting and let the unit run powered up overnight. May need to charge up/burn in your unit

If the anti virus comes up clean then uninstall your ATI drivers and re-install them

Hope this helps

Ran a virus scan, it was fine.
I thought at first it could have been memory. I ran memtest86 and it didn't find any errors. I'm downloading the video driver right now, and I'll try that..

Thanks

I'm still having problems after un installing and then reinsalling the ATI drivers from sagers site...

My next step is going to be to re-install windows. Any suggestions before I do that?

go back into the bios one more time and change your settings. save your settings and restart. let the lappy run overnight. then power down. then check the bios settings again and see if they changed.

if no changes you should be ok

if not CMOS battery could be bad. You may have to change the battery. If that is the case get in touch with Sager for a replacement.

let me know if this helps
