I *JUST* (last night) installed Kubuntu on my Sager 3790. So far so good. I will just have to get the modem (I know, I know), the wireless, and 3D acceleration working and I will be all set. So far though, it has been the single easiest of all the distros I've tried to set up. It detected most everything correctly right out of the box, including the native res on my wsxga+ LCD. I was able to get online immediately (first thing I tried after the reboot). I am pleased so far.

Try it, you'll like it!

the best thing about gentoo is the community. i've gotten excellent help and advice there faster than anywhere else; you can tell they care very much about there distro. i highly reccommend gentoo. i don't think anything can touch it right now, and as long as you compile big programs while you're sleeping you'll be a-ok, especially with a modern laptop

ps: it IS offen hard to get support for the newest technologies. for instance, i don't think centrino is fully supported in linux.

"Centrino" (a loose term for P-M notebooks with certain Intel wireless adapters) is supported.
