Your Asus Z71V GOD have good news for you. I have grant you a method to make your laptop cooler and more stable too!!!

My System: CPU 1.86Ghz w/2GB DDRII-533

Original System:
On Full Power it operates @ 1.308v. Idle temp 57c.
At 100% CPU resources temp 67c - 69c

After using the Dothan Voltage Tweak from
http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=70943
On Full Power it operates @ 1.116v. Idle temp 53c.
At 100% CPU resources temp 57c - 60c
On Min power running 800mhz @ 0.700c. Idle Temp 49c - 51c

After using the voltage tweak + Artic Silver 5 Compound:
On Full Power it operates @ 1.116v. Idle temp 50c
At 100% CPU resources temp 55c - 58c
On Min Power running 800mhz @ 0.700c. Idle Temp 43c - 45c

Note: FAN DOES NOT TURN ON UNTIL IT HIT ABOVE 49C!!! So after this method mentioned above, the FAN WAS COMPLETELY OFF!!!! until it reaches above 49c!!!

Woot!!!!

So far after 3 hours of stress test using the burn-in software, running stable and low heat!!!!!

Now all you with over 100post, give me those nice rep!!! heheheheheh

By the way, for those who o/c their video. Add the artic silver compound to the GPU will help the fan from spinning too fast too!!

LoL!

Don't need to use Prime95. And use the new 1.5 version of the PM Clock.

I am using the burn-in software to stress test it. Prime95 only gives me 75% cpu utilization. The burn-in software, i had post in the voltage thread, gives me 100% utilization.

noob question. does lowering the voltage lower the max speed? how bad is the performace hit?

Tried ver 1.5, still BSODs.
A question that is off topic, smilepak, was the OS pre-installed on your laptop?

Nope, I wanted a clean system w/o OS and install my own.

Can you describe the steps in installing the OS? For some odd reason, winlogon.exe and Generic Hosts keep dying and crashing at random times.
I used the upgrade version of Windows XP SP2.

It is best you use a FULL version of Win XP w/SP2. It works fine with just sticking the CD in and install. No problem whatsoever.

Afterwards, stick in the Asus CD to install the drivers.

Oops, I mean that the upgrade CD is actually a full version cd, but you need another legit Windows CD to verify it. After its verified, then it installs from the 'upgrade' disk.
I also installed all the drivers and utilites, except the last one or two, which was not of any use for me or the system.

Smilepak, just gotta say that I, for one, don't believe for a second that you're a god. If you think you are, you're gonna need a whole lot of counseling!

Seriously, nice find, but I'm going to stay away from it right now. Sounds a little bit out of my depth technologically, and I always like to understand what I'm doing as much as possible before I do it.

To all the undervolters out there, enjoy!

LoL! ehhehe....

Hmm the upgrade disk and that legit might have different versions of file that might overlap each other on something?

Na - both my dad's pc and my old pc had windows xp home upgrade on them. To install it on a clean hard drive, like he said, you boot up the cd like normal, and the only difference between it and the full retail or oem edition is that after accepting the license agreement it will make you insert a previous version of windows to verify that you have something else. I've actually installed xp home upgrade using a copy of xp pro before

then you take out the disk, and the installer thinks nothing more about it. The only reason it does this is if no partitions on the hard drive have windows installed.

I'd try running system file checker (sfc in command prompt) km2 and if nothing is awry there, try reinstalling the asus drivers. Don't have a z71v - just some suggestions.

What is this burn-in software? Is it only for the Asus or can you use it on other lappys? Can you post a link for download?

Yeah that is pretty cool. I think because of the higher bus.

actually, on Power4Gear max battery life setting, CPU throttles down to 400 Mhz.
