Hmm 400Mhz? That is a bit too low isn't it. LoL!
Well, these Dothans are very efficient..so it's probably not as slow as we'd think it is. 400 MHz is enough for browsing and word processing, that's for sure

I don't really use max battery life setting due to the screen turning off every minute or so of inactivity, but when I was going throulgh the different Power4Gear settings, that's what it got down to. E-mail/office (my standard battery setting) runs at minimum of 800 Mhz.

Sure I'll give that a try when i get home.

But the fan does turn on once it hit above 47c or 49c.

As for powergear, I think it is not needed in my case.

The built in ALS function of the Z71V will handle the LCD brightness already, so no need power gear for that

The RM Clock is handling the throttle of CPU up and down on demand, so no need speedstep XP or power gear for that too.

heheeh THe only think Ic ould think of using the powergear is the multiprofile functionality and ability to switch between them on demand quickly. Otherwise, i am good.

I am getting a good 4 hours and 15 minutes on browsing the internet right now on my laptop. I might get another 15 minutes after I just drop the voltage 2 steps.

This is working out really well. I will play EQ2 on it to see this weekend. But it passes all stress test so far.

smilepak, does applying the Arctic Silver 5 void the warranty?

And how overclocked is your Asus right now? My GPU was fried from the overcloking (see my review thread), so I was wondering what your stable settings are.

I had requested proportable to apply the arctic silver when they built my system originally.

But would it void warranty would depend on the place you purchase it from.

As for GPU, I am running it at 325 / 580 up until yesterday (approx 1 1/2 weeks worth of running). I've lower it down to 290 / 500 yesterday night to test out the stress test on the cpu.

For people that has the Z71V with the tweet rpoblem, does it sound like this?
h++p://www.angelfire.com/zine2/km2/beep.wav
I recorded from an external microphone, and its louder from the outtake of the fan slots. The hissing is from the fans.
Copy the link to your browser, and replace the + with t's.

Hey dude, mine does that too. I can only hear it when I get close to the keyboard, but that might be because my flippin loud desktop is on. Any word on solutions?

Replying to my own post. Anyone with this problem on their Z71V? Our lappies have a buzzing/ringing sound when running on the battery. Thanks.

I had this problem too. I looked it up and other laptops have similar problems. I think it has something to do with the cpu underclocking or something... I don't know. Anyway, the problem went away when I installed power4gear. Other solutions I found were going to the hardware management and turning off some option for the USB drives.

Would'nt those kinds of problems be considered as flaws?

I have the buzzing wether or not the laptop is plugged in. It more noticable when in Linux.

Thanks for the replies. I tried turning off the power man. for the USB ports, but that didn't work. I also have power4gear installed, and it's still doing it. Anyone have any more ideas?

All ya'll with the buzz sound problem, all of you using the powergear?

I don't have any problem with sound whatsoever. The only differences I could think of is I am not using the powergear.
I've got Power4Gear installed, and no buzzing whatsoever. It's not the software.

Q: How Do I Install new nVidia Driver?!

A: I found a nice tutorial you could use off laptopvideo2go.com. You could download the latest version of the nvidia driver and download the nice nifty INF file laptopvideo2go.com provided. Extract both of it in the same directory, and follow these steps:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/pages/instructions.htm

Starts with step #7 to install the driver...

By the way, for those who o/c their video. Add the artic silver compound to the GPU will help the fan from spinning too fast too!!

Hi, how did you add AS5 to your GPU? I tried when I assembled mine when I first got it, but the problem was that the heat sink is a joint unit with the chipset. And the heat sink doesn't actually touch the GPU on my unit, instead there's a pad that squishes that's about 3 mm thick or so. I thought about getting a shim of some kind but I don't have anything that will actually fit.

What did you use? Thanks.
