Hi, how did you add AS5 to your GPU? I tried when I assembled mine when I first got it, but the problem was that the heat sink is a joint unit with the chipset. And the heat sink doesn't actually touch the GPU on my unit, instead there's a pad that squishes that's about 3 mm thick or so. I thought about getting a shim of some kind but I don't have anything that will actually fit.

What did you use? Thanks.
WHen I removed the bottom of it, there are 4 screws or so that attach the fan/heatsink to the GPU.

If you remove it, you will notice it is actually one large heatsink which covers both the GPU and Intel Alviso chipset. The FAN is actually sitting directly above the Intel Alviso chipset, NOT the GPU we all originally thought.

When I removed it, I spread a layer on both the Intel Alviso chipset and the nvidia GPU.

What you could try to mod it with, which I haven't tried yet is to buy the ICE-IT themeral pad. There is a pad, with power connection, that turns the pad into ICE cold. No additional chemical or liquid required, just power. It might fit in that gap you mention and might work better than the AC5. I haven't MOD my system to try.

By The way since you bump this, might as well paste this in here too hehehehe

I still don't get it. If you spread over the GPU, it won't touch the heatsink. You have to use that little blue pad to make sure it contacts the heatsink. Is your system different? I can't imagine it being. The rest of it sounds the same.

Are you sure? Mine touches the GPU.

I think you see that gap because on a CHIP, it is raise a bit in the center. That is where the actual process chip is set. You should apply the AC5 on there, not on the entire chip. THat center silver piece touches the heatsink.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. Yes, I'm positive. The aluminum chunk touches the chipset, but not the GPU. There's a little blue pad about 1cm sq., about about 3mm thick that goes between the GPU and the HS. And if I take that out and put AS on either, it won't reach the GPU. I wonder, you didn't have any of these little blue pads? I had one between the chipset, too, but it wasn't even 1mm thick so I could get right in there with AS, but not on the GPU

I had a thermal pad between there originally, but not a blue one. It was fairly thin.

Damn. I took the whole thing apart again yesterday and there's no way AS5 will fit. THere was a very thin pad between chipset but not between GPU. WEIRD. If i want to get contact I need to get a shim. And now i've taken it apart so many times the little blue pad actually ripped, so I had to squish it back and put in a bunch of AS5 to try to make good contact. Not ideal by any stretch. Ug.

Hmm that is odd...i wonder if the card is misaligned.

I saw Fry's selling this pad they called ICE. It is an ice thermal pad that might fit in that space you have.

I used it before for the Pentium III, which works nicely. It is a pad with electroical current, it will be cold as ice.

That will be even better cooling power ify ou could get that to work.

Sounds like a pelletier? I guess I am not too worried about it. Ideally i'd just get a little slug of some kind to fit in there but for now, I suppose there is not much I can do about it. Thanks!
