My class finished 3 hours 30 minutes ago. I packed up my laptop into my case after using it take notes in lecture and left school, came home. I took a 2 hour nap, woke up around 15 minutes ago, opened up my laptop case and guess what I found? It was burning hot. The thing had been on for some reason the whole time inside the case. When I turned it on, the battery was drained. Everything seems normal so far, however... I wonder if the laptop shut off by itself when the heat was too excruciating... By the way my specs are

I9300
2.0 GHz Dothan Pentium M
1 GB ram
100 GB HD
GeForce Go 6800 256MB

I hope my laptop is okay...

Yeah, if it still works it's ok. I believe if thinkgs get too hot, i.e. over a certain temperture, the BIOS automatically throttles everything back down to an acceptable level, so you got nothing to worry about. Just enjoy the 9300....what are you doing sleeping?

haha be glad it isnt like those laptops from back in the day - if you left them on with the screen folded, they'd melt the display and keys.

I had an 8600 about a year ago. I finished working one day, told it to shut down, and packed it into my bag before it shut down. I then took my bag, and set it outside in the sun, and for the next hour and a half was outside finishing up some stuff. When I got home, and opened my bag, the computer was still on, and I could smell the electronics and plastic cooking.

Ouch.

I turned it off, left it off for a while and it worked fine ever after.

That smell almost made me crap my pants though.

Good thing it wasnt a Clevo clone p4 laptop, probably would have caught on fire!

I've done that before, told my I5150 to shut down and packed it away, got home an hour later, opened it and it was burning hot (P4)

typing on it now so I guess it's fine

Can't close that screen till it goes black and preferably wait till all the lights go off. Also maybe just set it to hybernate with lcd closed and close the lid.
