New Desktop

Thread Starter
I'm building my first desktop, and just ordered the parts off of newegg. I was hoping some of you could take a look, and let me know what you think (and make sure my parts all fit together).

Thanks in advance

Oh no... did you get a Prescott P4 chip??

Just so you know, that cpu runs VERY hot, I'm talking 60-65C load even with excellent cooling. I had one in my previous mobo and it toasted the power supply jack and several other areas on the mobo.

what kind of video card did you buy?

I second CrabbyPatty...

You should go AMD... better performance, better price...

Yea, i got a prescott, b/c i couldnt find any Northwoods to fit the LGA 755 socket on the motherboard, which i needed b/c i needed PCI express to fit the video card (ATI FireGL V3100).

Does anyone know of a good gaming card that will also work with Solidworks? Cus i know this card is crap... but i know it runs Solidworks

It's a good choice, I ditched my AMD this year as well for PCI Express. Not noticable difference except certain OS based core apps run better on the Prescott. Don't look back, and enjoy it.

yeah thats what I have notice, there is not one single amd board on the market that has PCI-E I wonder what the reasoning behind that is. I do have 2 p4 computers, but I also have amd64 computer that i would love to run a PCI_E vid card. ANy thoughts on this?

Huh? What's with this talk that there are no AMD boards with PCI-Express?

They are out now, but they were not out when I needed one. They missed that boat by a few months.

That's what I figured, but I was really puzzled by Alien_Head13's post.

I would disagree with that, have you see the factory heat sink on the Prescott processor? It's HUGE, and the fan sounds like a jet engine! I switched to H2O just to get rid of the oversize fan.
