Sagerite gaming event, take two

sounds like the much anticipated WAN game on Saturday night did not happen due to technical difficulties. I don't know if we have many people in this forum that play any of the following games, but I would like to try to organize for another night if there is enough interest:

Age of Mythology (my current favorite)
Warcraft III
Empire Earth
Age of Kings: Conquerors Expansion
StarCraft: Broodwar Expansion
RedAlert2

If you are interested in joining in on some Sagerite combat with any of the above games, I will organize it and give explanations on how to for those who want to join in. I don't have the xpacs for RedAlert2 or Empire Earth, but I can get them if those are the games of choice. So vote for your favorite game and let me know if you want in on this second attempt at a Sagerite gaming event.

My vote for Warcraft III! It's easy to get hooked up if everyone can access Battlenet. Of course, everyone has to have a legitimate CD key. War3 is only $20 at EBgames.com, and it's definitely worth it!

cool

first of many responses I hope. I am pretty much a noob at Warcraft III, but I played Starcraft and its pretty similar. I haven't yet played Warcraft III online. How many players can join one game on Battlenet? How's the lag when you max out? WarcraftIII might actually be better than AOM for a Sagerite game if we get a lot of players because its technical requirements are slightly less demanding, such that there should be less lag in a many player game, but you tell me cause I never tried a many player game on Battlenet and I haven't read up on that one. Can you play behind a firewall on Battlenet? Ensemble Studios Online supports that, but Microsoft's Gaming Zone does not. My experience, support for players behind a firewall makes life much easier in getting a game going. Yes you can tell everyone to turn off their firewalls, but for some people that is easier said than done and some people just overlook that issue, causing delay. One less item on the troubleshooting list is preferable.

I would be interested in playing Age of Mythology, it's also my current fav (haven't played much though). Of course I can only run version 1.1 (or is it 1.01?) so I don't know how that would work out.

list em all please

0110 just suggested Counterstrike be added to the list, in his response on the WAN game thread. That is another one I would be willing to play, although I would need to borrow the game from a friend for that and I suck at counterstrike. what I should have asked from the begining is for everyone that is interested to list all the games they would be willing to play in a sagerite event, along with their favorite, so that we can pick a game that enough people are willing to play, even if it is not everyone's favorite.

probably on another Saturday night

I can possibly do it this coming Saturday night, the 18th, if people want to do it that quickly. anyway, Azartrus, if you are getting your computer Wednesday, you will have it before the event. If anyone has any strong preferences for when it should occur, please feel free to let me know, and let me know if a Sat. night works well for you. Because the other event seemed to work out well for participation on a Sat. night (except for the tech probs), that is why I am leaning toward a Sat. night. Glad to see at least one other person willing to play AOM Azartrus. But I go with whatever the majority wants, assuming we get some clear direction when the dust settles.

the problem with demos

I liked the idea of the BF1942 demo because it was free and everyone could secure a copy. The problem is most demos do not work on the online gaming sites (I don't think), so if you are suggesting a demo, please let me know if it can be played online like WarCraftIII can be played at Battlenet, or Age of Mythology can be played at EnsembleStudiosOnline, or many other games can be played at Microsoft's Gaming Zone or at GameSpy. We are trying to make things as easy as possible to get everyone connected and playing, and avoid the types of technical hurdles encountered this past Saturday. The downside is, no matter what mainstream full version game we pick, not everyone who wants to participate is going to be able to because not everyone will have or be willing to buy the game.

glad to see all the interest in a second attempt at a gaming nite for Sagerites. looks like Counterstrike, WarCraftIII, and Age of Mythology have a couple of votes each. All three of those suit me. Shame I just deleted Counterstrike from my old computer this past weekend cause I hadn't played it in a year and my wife is using that comp now and it is short on HD space. But like I said I could get my hands on a copy from a friend if that is the game that wins the election.

Please be sure to list as many different games as you are willing to play. It will be difficult to glean a consensus otherwise. Glad to see several others interested in AOM (my personal favorite). I know it can be obtained on eBay for $25. WCIII is also very cool.

no feedback on which night, so we are still targeting a Saturday night. The 25th looks best on my calendar. Figure a 9:30 pm start time, which will allow those like me with kids to get them to bed before the gaming starts. The goal would be to start playing no later than 10:00pm, the logistics should not take forever to work out so long as we play on an online gaming site.

Hi Dan. I will be happy to facilitate your entry into the wonderful world of gaming. My personal favorite game type is Real Time Strategy (RTS), but First Person Shooters (FPS) are also quite fun. BF1942 is a type of FPS. In RTS games you build a base and economic units, you collect resources and use those to build up your base (and to build multiple bases) and defenses and to build many military units, you then use your military units to wipe out the opponent's base(s) (or the other team's bases). In FPS games you take on the role of one character or unit and go around blasting others (sometimes playing capture the flag or rescue hostages or whatever, sometimes as part of a team, or sometimes as a single player against the world).

Take a look at the information regarding Age of Mythology and WarCraft III at www.mrfixitonline.com. There is a nice new players guide in the Age of Mythology Articles section. I recommend buying the game AOM at ebay for $25 or less. enjoy.
