Hi , I just inherited an old thinkpad 600e laptop with a bad HDD . I got another drive and am trying to revive the machine . I have replaced the HDD and want to install Win98 but I'm having a problem.

When I power on the machine with a startup disc in the floppy It goes to the floppy but the terminates within a few secs and I get the message "MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM" and that's it . I can't get into the utilities to format the new drive and install the OS. If I remove the HDD the startup disc loads OK.
I'm wondering if the boot sequence is the problem but I can't find directions on how to set up the boot order. I know enough to power up the machine holding the F1 key and to select "startup" and then "power on" but what to do next is my problem , ie, how to make floppy #1 .cd drive #2 and HDD #3, then lock in the settings and save them.
Can anyone help me please? I really need someone with more knowledge than I.

Thankyou
