Report the outcome of your memory upgrade here!!!

Thread Starter
I've started this thread as kind of a sister thread to the "Where to buy 1gb memory for the i9300". When you get your ram and have tested it, please come here to report your results. I will collate them together in this first post, so that we can get an idea of some of the more reliable vendors and also the more reliable memory manufacturers. If you have gotten your memory earlier, please still let us know your results so we can add it to our collective experiences. Thanks for the info!

Download memtest.
OR
Memtest+

Please list
#1 what you got (amount of ram, number of sticks, brand name)
#2 where you ordered it from, and price
#3 the results of your memtest
#4 whether you were generally happy/unhappy with your order and why (i.e. had to return the memory 5 times before getting an error-free stick, customer service was awesome, customer service sucked, only had 1 error out of 20 overnight runs - good enough for me, etc, etc, etc.)

Please do NOT report "no errors" until you have run memtest. Quite frankly, if you pay that much money, you'd be foolish to NOT run it and just assume that it works because you haven't encountered errors yet. Crashes may not occur until much later into your ownership when it is too late to return it. Do yourself a favor and run it!

1) 1gb of DDR2 PC-4200 Kingston Value Ram KVR533D2S4/1G
2) Order from Memory4Less.com at $127.
3) Ran MemTest86+ 15 times, 0 errors (Ran another random memory tester 2 times with no errors)
4) Over all I liked Memory4less although they charged me for the stick of ram before it had been shipped and while it kept getting delayed. Don't think you should be charged for something you do not have. Other than that, great service, easy to contact and was willing to work with me on getting a replacement if I couldnt wait for the Kingston. I'm happy!

Side Note- I am running (1) 1gb KVR ram with (1) 256mb Hynix ram with no problems for a total of 1.25gb ram. Ran this setup during the test with no errors. Works like a charm, no crashes for close to a week, so if you want to do this option it should work. Plan on getting another gig when prices go down in a year or so.

1. 2x1GB Corsair Value RAM PC2-4200 SODIMM for my 9300
2. Spartantech.com, $137 ea/$274 total (+ $22.25 next day PM shipping)
3. memtest86+ v1.55.1: 1 pass sofar, 0 errors. Since it's taking ~1 hour to test 2x1GB modules, I'll take that as a good sign for now, will test more this weekend. (BTW, the memtest mentioned in the OP is an older memtesting program, a little bit outdated. I was using the memtest from memtest.org, it's <1 month old and supports all the new architectures, etc.)
4. Sofar: Spartantech.com has been very pleasent to deal with! Ordered on Wednesday, called Thursday to check, waited <5 seconds to get a human being on the phone, was told order was shipping out Thursday. Got them in Friday (today). I am going to call them and offer my thanks for their great service.

2. shop.kingston.com (194.00 each)
3. 1 pass>>>8 errors! Back it goes...
4. After two days of glitches on its availability, Cindi Kipers, a cs rep who was VERY nice and helpful, got them in gear, found the 2 sticks, and overnighted without extra charge. Recieved it, installed...one sodimm didn't seat...reinstalled...bingo!

1Gb Transcend from NewEgg for $175

Think its down to $165 since I bought it. Running alongside original 256Mb fine. Interestingly, the bios says its running "dual mode" but I can't see how that is possible since the size doesn't match.

For the ignorant, like me, what exactly does it mean if errors are disclosed? Should the memory be returned? What is the threshold?

If you RAM chip has errors in them, it is best to return them for a new chip because even though it may seem fine for a while, one might experience problems like BSOD later on. It is totally random when the problems will occur, it can be days, months or even years.

Sorry, I don't mean to screw up this thread. But, say one does have errors on memory...what to do, contact the maker and tell them so as to invoke warranty?
