Elpida is a large Japanese chip maker. Surprisingly, I think their plant is still based in Japan and has not moved to a cheaper country.

Question: does memtest86 version 3.1 or version 3.2 matter for this new DDR2 memory?

shop.kingston.com (194.00 each)

1 pass>>>8 errors! Back it goes...

After two days of glitches on its availability, Cindi Kipers, a cs rep who was VERY nice and helpful, got them in gear, found the 2 sticks, and overnighted without extra charge. Recieved it, installed...one sodimm didn't seat...reinstalled...bingo!

Hmmm...maybe running version 3.1 had something to do with th errors. I ran v 3.2 3 passes and NO errors! I had already contacted Kingston...they were quite concerned and prompt in speaking with me.

Another memtester program

For all of you using the memtest program listed in the original post: you might also want to try another memtester program, based on the one in the original post. It's named very close to the other: memtest86+, found at Memtest86+ . It looks and feels just like the other program, but seems to be updated on a faster basis, latest version (v1.55) was from 3/28/05. It fully identified my DDR2 as DDR-II, 533 MHz, etc.

Just want to clarify. This is the keeponkeepingon results referenced in the OP. My test was done with Memtest+ v1.55 and it was on a Precision M70 not an i9300

The Dell F12 test show zero errors. Now I need to try the original memtest86 and see what I get. Problem is I have zero problems, a lot of work to do right now and the memory tests on 2gb take forever. Might have to wait till the end of the semester to get this done. Good thing kingston is "lifetime".Given the different results on the same memory based on the test make sure to include the test and version you are using when posting your results.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

So I am seeing on Spartan techs website:

1024MB MEMORY PC4300 128MX64 1024MB 200 PIN SODIMM DDR2 CORSAIR VALUE SELECT BRAND MEMORY-priced at only $142

How come this is PC4300? I thought it needed to be 4200... Would this work in a 9300?

Azote, 4300 is just a typo on Spartans part, it is 4200.

That is 400mhz ram.
Those clowns have a 6 month rating of 4 out of 10. That means 6 out of 10 purchases were not happy campers.

A quick update. Powered up my old computer and did memtest on the laptop all day:

256mb samsung ram: 13 passes no errors
1GB Kingston Stick 1: errors 2nd pass
1GB Kingston Stick 2: errors 2nd pass

Figured I have 2 bad sticks, but really don't want to send both back, laptop is useless with 256mb ram.

Put one of the 1GB sticks in the second ram slot, leaving the 256mb ram in the first slot.

256 mb samsung ram/1gb kingston stick 1: 7 passes (so far) no errors.

Also with the 256mb samsung chip in slot A I get CAS 4 reported in Memtest+ With the 1GB chip in slot A I believe I was getting CAS3

So the point is I think the Kingston ram is swell, if it has the lowest price get it. Just if you have an M70 and want to run 2 1gb sticks, consider something else (though others report it works, and the F12 tests run fine).

Update on my RAM saga. Seems the ram is OK, just having problems with my M70. Get errors with both chips running alone in slot A, but the memory is error free when the 256mb original dell chip is in the first slot and a 1GB chip is in the 2nd slot (8 error free passes Memtest86+ 1.55). Does not seem to be a problem with 9300 users so if the kingston is cheapest go with it.

This is not a dual chanell thing, as single sticks get errors if run in slot A.

I just installed 2x 1 gig of 3D memory on my xps2. It heats up quite a lot. Is this a good brand? Shoul I be worried about the heat?

Man. Anyone with Newegg's Transcend 1GB memory run memtest yet? I'm going to get mine Thursday. I'll run it during the weekend and post results.
