Lightweight notebook for use in daylight

Thread Starter
Looking for comments on a lightweight notebook that will be viewable in bright daylight.
If anyone has a sony notebook with x-brite, I would like your feedback on its viewability.
I have been told that a matte finish is NOT good for sunlight.

I have used an Asus M5Np in sunlight, and despite the fact that it has a matte screen, everything is still nice and sharp on the screen when it's set at full brightness. The M5Np is about 3.4lbs with the normal 3 cell battery, which will give about 2:30 tops. A 9 cell battery is also available and that can go up to around 7 hours tops.

Basically the same model (but without an optical drive) is the Asus S5N.

Both of these laptops are being updated with the Intel 915 chipset soon, so if this is a possible choice, it'd be best to wait until the new releases.

You have been told wrong. Matte finish is SUPERIOR for sunlight. Think about it, glossy screens are reflective meaning all you see in direct sunlight is light and your reflection.

Matte finish on the other hand reflects much less light and provides a much more pleasureable intense light viewing situation. If you want to test this take two pictures out on a sunny day one with matte finish and the other with a high gloss (and even though a high gloss pictures doesn't reflect as much as a glossy screen, you will see how horrendous a glossy screen can be in direct or prevalent sunlight).

I'm using Fujitsu with CrystalView Screen (Glossy), and I don't have any difficulties in the daylight, sometimes I enjoy doing work/surfing in my backyard, and if I compare between my laptop (see my sig.) they way my Vaio and my T70K screen is between heaven and earth, it's more difficult for me to work with my Vaio outside (matte screen).
You can compare the screen in this thread: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=75729
