two totally different notebooks... if you want one just to type on, watch movies, and surf the internet get the ibook... if you want to game get the Z71... z71 is a waste if you arent going to game

He's got a point... but who puts 1600+ dollars into something to intentionally not do any gaming That's like not putting decent speakers into a car because you don't listen to music often.

Seriously, the Ibook is very appropriate for those who only need light use. The Z71V, while a high performance Notebook, would still fall short of Apple's service and reliability.

Nice Notebook I'd get that one with 1.8 Pentium M B/G wireless 1gig ram 80 gig 5400rpm HD, XP Home ( I have XP Pro and Home and see little difference) It was 1729 Here at this site. Oh and a DVD RW

I would be using the notebook mostly for doing my programming projects, intermediate graphics editing, watching DVDs, surfing the internet. I am not a hard core gamer but might try it out now and then.

Just purchased a Z71V 3 weeks ago. It way exceeds my expectations. My business partner has the 17" Apple. I now feel like I'm in first class again...

first of all if your doing graphics pc is the way to go. Forget about all the crap you heard how great mac is, thats all bull! I should know i have an imac g5 and a powerbook g4 there are by no means anywhere as fast as my frineds ell m70 or the gateway! WHEN I MEAN NO WHERE CLOSE I MEAN THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE! What might take an hour on the mac take like 20 min or less on the pc. Photoshop works better on my pc everything does. Honestly I would never buy a mac; why? The ibook starts at 1 grand ad then you have to get comfortabably equipped; your looking at around 1,400-1,500 which will get you a pb the lowest one For that money you can an Asus which will not only beat the crap out oif the ibooks, powerbook, alos the POWERMACS AND IMACS Honeslty if your looking for speed mac is seriously not what you want. Forget the hype about how fast the g5 is, honeslty it takes two g5 to come close into preformance to a dothan or sonoma. Also im not looking it up for you guys goolge search it its disscued everywhere. On avg the 2ghz Pentium m is 30 percent faster than the G5 dual 2ghz Wow that shows how fast the centrino is and yes it can keep up with the bib boys. Pc mag says the top of the line sonoma is around a 3.4-3.6ghz P4 Ht. Thats honeslty ver very fast for a laptop that produces only 20some watts. Also if you undervolt it it can be lower i the teens! But if you want something that looks nice, fells great, stability, and very user friendly mac is the way to go. Also as stated before only get the mac if you jus doing the minimal work like word and internet but that it. Mac usually alswyas been behind tech.

I tried to read the previous post all the way through but gave up. Would it be that hard for people to write sentences that have some relationship - however fleeting - to the basic grammatical rules of our common language? Or to check their spelling? Or to use paragraphs? Or to avoid the use of capital letters?

Surely that is just common courtesy?

Evidently not.

So you can imagine how grating it is for me to admit that I actually agree with him.

Get the PC.

Ditto. OSX is very nice.

I think really you should go with whatever OS you prefer. Its also worth noting that apple multitasks a hell of alot better than windows, and tiger looks set to be very nice.

laptop, I agree with how, however I am having a dispute with my friend and if you have any links to sites comparing the Pentium M and G5, that would be awsome! Thanks.
