Limited connectivity

Hey folks...new 9300 is shaping up well. Just installed 2 gb Kingston ram and the thing seems pretty speedy. I was installing apps and internet coonection was fine using wired dsl connection. Had a bad install of AV, which I uninstalled, followed by a good install. I rebboted and found the dreaded yellow symbol over my connectivity icon in systray. My guess is something was corrupted in the uninstall of the AV. Anyone have any suggestions with this limited amount of information? Thanks...

Mine was doing that the other day and I had to call tech suport for road runner and they reset the cable modem from their end and then it worked fine.

1. Unplug your modem for 1 min or so, then plug back in. See if that takes care of it
2. At the command prompt type: msconfig/release and then msconfig/renew and see if that works.
3. log into your router address, ie: 192.168.0.1 and release and renew your IP information via your router. see if that takes care of it
4. google "winsock fix" download and execute the .exe and reboot.

Other than that, try uninstalling and reinstalling your ethernet adapter or updating drivers. You can always call your DSL provider and make sure there isn't anything wrong with your modem...etc.

Ah yes, #1 should always be check your firewall! Sygate has been great for me by the way.

Actually, it's weird. I have used sygate before without any problems on other machines. I like it, alot! I turned it off, disabled it from loading, etc....still no connection. So, backtracking, I just uninstalled it and, voila!, connected. Who knows...

probably a registry issue. Did you reinstall?? If you do, and it doesn't work again, see if you can ping your modem, or www.google.com....

run winsock fix if you can't ping the internet.....

I actually ran both popular versions of the winsock fix as I couldn't do anything. So, I completely uninstalled...now using ...(dread) Norton firewall...oh well.

Yikes....have fun with that clunky software! Funny about sygate. Its always treated me well. You'd rather use norton and not zone alarm?

I have used ZA and thought it was ok...thought Kerio was good, too. IMO, it's about 6 of one, half dozen of the other. I may give Sygate another try after the initial excitement and wanting to get everything loaded dies down. In the end, what I would like is not only a good firwall, but some app that broadcasts a random IP and MAC number...then we'd be cookin!
