Adobe bought out Macromedia

I haven't seen this posted elsewhere on here, but I also only visit the Apple section anyway. And I'd say this affects Apple users, percentage-wise, at least moreso than your typical PC user. I don't know how many of you are aware, but Adobe bought out Macromedia for 3.4 billion.

Personally, I think it might be kind of cool. Photoshop/Illustrator integration with Flash, and they could combine GoLive with Dreamweaver for those who prefer visual design programs. As for Freehand and Fireworks, who knows. I can see Adobe pulling some of their features out for Photoshop and Illustrator, but I don't think the names will last. But honestly, I don't know what features Freehand and Fireworks might have, since I've never even messed with them.

I just hope Flash is organized better, akin to Photoshop. Flash is okay right now, but some of its quirks can be annoying. Perhaps I would enjoy working in it more if it was set up a little differently.

I can see Director sticking around, although I wonder if that'd be combined with After Effects for a new type of package (and keep people away from Motion).

The downside is the near monopoly Adobe has now. Plus, with Macromedia swallowed up, Apple could lose some leverage if Adobe were to talk about making their apps for PC only. Final Cut Pro eliminated Premiere on the Mac. I still wonder how Adobe really felt about that (even though, if their product was at least semi-shitty, it wouldn't have happened so easily... and sidenote, Final Cut was originally by Macromedia).

CS3 should be interesting.
