Discs included or not included.

What discs do you get with your Powerbook? I mean, should you one day need to nuke your hard drive and have to do a clean install of the Mac OS X and all other software you had installed previously. Do you get a disc with all the needed hardware drivers?

Thanks.

Yes

Of course you do, apple aren't dell.

You should get 2 disks; one with the system install and the other with the restore software. The first disk will install only OS X and the software that comes with a retail install such as iTunes and stuff. The second disk has iLife and OS 9 and whatever software was bundled with the computer.

Thanks for the replies people! Glad to know Apple DOES supply you with the necessary discs (e.g. recovery discs with the needed hardware drivers). Though, Kakaze didn't mention that in his reply. Perhaps he forgot.

What I dread is one day needing to do a clean install and then realizing I hadn't downloaded ALL the necessary drivers. The included software isn't a big deal IMHO. Just the needed drivers to get all the devices working (e.g. dvd burner, video card...etc.).

Can some one give me a detailed list of what are one the 2 discs please?

Thanks again! And, have a great weekend!

dell includes all the same discs that apples does. if you don't know that, don't respond. annoying when people think they know what's going on.

There are no driver disks. The system is so integrated with the hardware that the only time you should ever have to get separate drivers is if you're using external hardware, and even then OS X includes so many drivers for non Apple hardware that the chances of needing any are close to nil, unless the device is just so new that there's nothing out there for it yet.

So there aren't any driver restore disks—just the system disk and the software restore.

Hello Kakaze,

Ahhh ok I gotcha now. Thanks!

And it is true that the Dell laptops DO include recovery discs with the drivers. Just confirmed it with my buddy. He owns a 600m. But ironically the desktops don't. You would have to go download them from the Dell website long before you should need to nuke your hard drive.

Thanks guys!

Are you referring to Dell desktops? If so, how was the disc with the drivers labelled? My mother's Dell Dimension 4700 only has 3 Dell discs. 2 of them have DVD burning and other multimedia programs on them. One is for the Dell printer. That's it.

Don't suppose you should grab your digital camera and take a snapshot of the face of the disc too? If not no biggy.

Nite.

i don't have one anymore bc i switched over, but i think they said drivers and diagnostics, if they don't come with them i've heard from several people and dell just forgets to include them in the box, you can call them up and they will send you one. but just easier to download it instead.

Yes, very true. But, it would be nice if they made one for my mother's PC. Which should include ALL the needed drivers that weren't on other discs that I have received. Just makes things more organized and neat. And should be complete. Just in case I neglect to download a driver or file they thing is necessary.

Thanks for your input! Nite!

Well, not any more. My Laptop (and just about every i9200 and i9300 owner) hasn't gotten a driver disk. Dell UK computers don't even come with a windows install disk.

yeah, my dell windows ME laptop came with about 50 disks too... However it seems that owners of new dell's aren't getting much.

With my i9200 I got 3 Disks...
1 for Acrobat Elements
1 for Sonic Recordnow LE
1 Copy Of Windows XP Pro

I didn't even get a printed manual, that was on the computer.

well i've noticed on all the machines i've had, there is a partition dell makes with all the drivers you need, so i guess you could check that and burn a copy of it all.
