This is my first laptop and it will be used for Photo editing in Photoshop, and other design software, as well as for any education software needed by teachers. minimal gaming.

Is it worth the almost $300 diff?
Inspirion 6000 $1732
Windows XP Media edition 2005
PM 750 1.86GHz
15.4" WUXGA+
256MBx2 DDR2 SDRAM
64MB Radeon
60GB HD
Integrated Network card
Pro wireless 2915
9-cell additional battery

Inspirion 600m $1461
PM 745 1.8GHz
14.1" SXGA+ w/ 64MB video
256MBx2 DDR SDRAM
60GB HD
Pro wireless 2200
48 Whr additional modular battery
integrated 56Kmodem and network card

Or am I looking at way more computer than I'm going to need?
thanks

Since you are gonna be using photoshop, I would probably think that the faster processor and a bigger screen is important, so the $300 is worth it. Since you are a teacher, have you tried looking to see if Dell would offer you a larger through their education site?

I am not sure why you chose MCE, but the WUXGA is probably going to give crisper images when you use photoshop or other photo editing software. If you were to go with the 600m, it would be better to get ram elsewhere such as newegg because dell is way overpriced. But, there is a great deal going on right now for the 600m's, so you might save more money if you go with the 600m.

600m is perfect for you...just my opinion, cause I have one.

both of those are after the $750 off coupon. The education discount is only 12% and won't stack with any coupons so it ends up being around $200 more for either system.

How hard is it to upgrade ram on a laptop?

upgrading ram is really easy. I would say that you should go for the 6000 as well, you'll enjoy the extra screen estate.

if ram is that easy then I could shave $50-75 off the price and get only 256MB

The only time from now on when I buy more than the minimum amout of RAM from Dell, is if they have another 35% coupon. Even then, it comes to about the same amount.

Check around in the other Dell sections. If there is a good coupon you can use, the computer will be cheaper in parts other than EPP. Plus, if you call to order, you could probably get a little more off if you tell them you have an education discount.
