Sent it back due to screen malfn

For the second time, I have had to send my 8790 to sager to fix a screen/case problem. The problem started when I returned the unit to have the DVD replaced (wasn't writing to +r media). They sent it back with a new DVD, but now the screen on/off switch wouldn't work properly - it had to be wiggled to get the screen to light up. Then, when the screen was up and running, it showed lines of various colors in all modes. I noticed if you pressed on the case to the left of the HDD status light, it would help some but not totally eliminate the anomaly. In the work order they sent back with the unit, it mentioned they had "reworked" the case. I guess they reworked it too much.

They fixed that problem and sent it back. It worked well for a while. A week ago, the problem reappeared, now outside the warranty period. I spoke with the tech rep and noted that this was a problem that they created during the DVD fix, and that they should fix it without charge. He recited the standard mantra about out-of-warranty status, but I was not swayed by it. I sent along the correspondence from the previous servicing to back up my claim.

It is at sager now. Let's see what happens.

BTW, I have not had any artifacting trouble, but have experienced the screen flicker as well.

Sager makes good on prior fix!!

Well, some great news. I received my laptop back from Sager today and was pleasantly surprised. They honored my request to fix the problem generated during a DVD fix, even though it was out of warranty.

They replaced the motherboard and some other notation about a BOS.

They have stood behind their product and I am grateful!
