X600 is nice, but it is 1-2 levels below 6600go interms of performances

when you do buy your laptop, consider buying ram and the hard disk separately, since you can usually save some money this way.. newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com are usually a good place to start looking for this stuff..

RAM bus speeds

Hey guys.. i'm in the same boat, gonna be a pharmacy student (lots of chemical modeling) soon (in a month), hence i'm needing the same kinds of recommendations..

someone posted about DDR2 (533mhz?) so obviously this is faster than DDR1 at 400.. but, is there any other type(s) of RAM? for laptops, i mean.. and, does the chipset affect the choice of RAM? i'm guessing most likely yes, but if so, what is the newest chipset around? how long is it gonna stick around until some crazy new revision of Dothan comes in?

i currently have a mac laptop for this private highschool which is mac-crazy.. but next month is a different story.. going to U of T and i'm gonna need the power and speed for doing homework.. yep, no jokes.. and i want something that i can hold on to and still not feel like a complete idiot after about 2 years.

this forum is great.. you guys are doing a great job helping people out (especially newbies like me)

from the chemist,

nico

theres always AMD and Intel
and ya Intel's heavily advertised Centrino is pretty amazing.. well at least the processor+motherboard component and sound is very good

the newest centrino is the sonoma platform.. and that USUALLY runs with ddr-2 memory
you'll probally want a laptop with pentium-M processor

i heard that the one new faster pm will be released at the end of july, and all of the prices will be reduced down one bump. the 2 gig will cost as much as the 1.8 gig does now, etc
