Thanks - yeah the lack of a DVD burner was a downer - I forgot to mention that. The 9300 I have on the way has one. But, this is primarily for gaming. I have a DVD burner in my desktop and that's the machine where I will do heavy downloading and work with video files.

I have a couple of internal burners I can stick in one of those USB enclosures. I'll deal with it. At least it has a CD burner.

I've tried a number of different techniques. I was able to get a couple using pure speed but they were always configs stuffed full of expensive RAM.

I don't have any scripts, so I had to get craft and use my noodle. Once I saw a config I liked, even though I initially missed it, I kept hitting back on my browser and then "add to cart".

I figured I'd just hope the person who initially got the config (johare in this case) didn't like it and that I would beat the scripts. That was the only way I was able to get a config close to what I wanted.

Wasted probably four to six hours of my weekend to this, though.

Hope you guys get great deals. I know I did.

Thanks for letting it go - I snapped this one up. I have a 9300 on the way, but I guess I'll have the 9300 as a backup in case there's something wrong with the XPS Gen 2 screen or something.

If I had the opportunity to tweak the config I would have added a bigger hard drive and Bluetooth, but wtf. Those are minor nits considering the price.

Now, to the Dellbert, who made the Skinnerian box comment earlier - it's this one in a million clicks reward that will reinforce my behaviour for next time.

Ahhhh.... I feel like I just had rocking sex!

That's an OK find but I bet you could have gotten better. The 33% EPP one I got (brand new not refurbished) cost me $2066 and I got a 3 yr warranty, 8x dvd-rw and 100 GB HD with it and you only paid $30 less.

You do know that price on the specs page is BEFORE the 30% discount, right?

Ah nope I thought that was the final price, ~$1450 is a good price then.

With the $500 outlet discount and the 70% off coupon, he should have paid about $1423 + tax...that's about $600 less than you paid.

You're not counting the warranty, dvd burner or HD either: $279 for 3 yr, $99 for HD and $119 for the DVD-RW which is around $497. The $2066 I paid is after tax + shipping so add in his tax + shipping as well. Like I said, he still got a good deal but I bet he could have gotten better for a used system.

There are resellers who create scripts which automatically search Dell's outlet for all the good stuff and adds it to their cart. Unfortunately, us normal people just looking for a good price on a personal notebook get screwed. Generally, speaking of course.

Didn't someone in this thread claim to have a script? He might as well release it to people here that want a system. If you do some searching around, a lot of these ebayers are using a program called proxomitron and a Dell outlet script to grab these systems quickly. There are scripts out there that you can load up in the program to do the same for you though the ones I came across were not complete.

Here's a thread to get people started if they need something like this: http://asp.flaaten.dk/proxo/topic.as...66&whichpage=1

I actually paid $1761 plus shipping, because I added a three year warranty with the accident insurance. That's about $300 less, but as you point out I don't have a DVD burner or a HD upgrade. I *do* have Win XP Pro ($79), which is something I really wanted. (I see you picked Home, at least for your first machine.)

Yeah, it's someone's return, but it can't be more than a couple of weeks old and I have a three year warranty with accident coverage to take care of any issues. EPP is not an option for me (my employer is not an EPP company), so this is the only way I can get this kind of price on this machine.

I'd love to know how this whole thing works. ARe there a few people testing and assembling and pressing a button that releases the machine as available? It's very peculiar.

Who just grabbed the XPS 2 ?
There hasn't been a new notebook in the outlet for a while now...

That's another reason I haven't been too eager to grab one of these....I live in Florida where they can't sell the accident insurance to Home buyers. I have 3 boys between the ages of 3 and 11, so the chances of an accident happening in the next 3 years is somewhere in the area of 98-99%. I bought my 9300 from Small Biz...in my situation, buying one of these without CompleteCare would be like buying a new car for a great price, but with the stipulation that it was uninsurable. :-(

Still, if I see one of these XPS 2's pop up for around $1100 like a couple people here have gotten...might not be able to resist that.

Ha ha. I know that feeling. I have two girls, so the odds are only 85% that they'll break my laptop. But there's a 120% chance I'll be manipulated in some way in the next three years.

Nice. Thats pretty close to how I would configure my lappy. Im jelous.
Wow....think this one was as cheap as you'll find an XPS 2 as it was only $15 above the threshhold where you can use the 30% coupon:

http://outlet.us.dell.com/Dispatcher...ceTag=EZ1FHLW9

Before tax it would come out to $1025.

Hehe...might have gotten it if I wasn't distracted trying to get this:

http://outlet.us.dell.com/Dispatcher...ceTag=FX843A6E

$594 for a 9300...not bad.
