Kensington Contour Backpack FITS i9300 (Review w/PICS) - Page 5

I don't know if anyone has tried this......but i took the yellow plastic out, much nicer imo. Very easy to do.

My Countour backpack arrived today. It is very comfortable but I don't think it looks very stylish. Not that I've seen a laptop backpack that is Beats a briefcase like carrier. Now if my laptop would just arrive so I could see how it fits.

Have any of you guys compared it to the Samsonite Sport Backpack?

It can be had for $45 and has lots of room and pcokets for stuff. To me, it looks better than the Kensington.

Any comments?...........

This backpack is amazing! As a test tonight I loaded my Inspiron 9300, ac adapter, mouse, headset, 2 games, 2 heavy textbooks, 2 binders, pens, keys, wallet and cell phone and lifted it and even though it was a lot of weight when it was actually situated on my back it felt great! Walked around like that for about 5 minutes and didn't feel tired at all. Much better than what I'm used to using to carry my textbooks around in. Highly recommended and IMO very stylish and well made!

So, in summary: the Kensington Contour Backpack is awesome for the i9300/XPS Gen 2? And nothing else is as good?

If your not careful, the metal along the top of the backpack for the zipper will scratch your notebook as you put in it and take it out.

In conclusion the Contour is the shiznit. I ordered a Dell Large Backpack with my 9300 but I am selling it off as it just looks cheap and isn't half as comfortable.

VERY TRUE... BUT, you can fold the top edge of the 'puter compartment inside out so there's no chance of that... and i always put my 'puter in with the bottom side facing the back of the BP/zipper...

well "good" is very relative... i think it's the best lookin'/most business lookin' one, it's comfortable, etc.

It is the smallest of all the bags i've seen reviewed/compared... so if ya need max room, then ya might wanna look elsewhere... one of the Targus (forget the name) is much larger and has a much better handle that stands up for easy grabbin'...

there are other very good bags out there... my only complaint about the Contour is it's a lil too small, but that's all...

damn fine lookin' bag...

I travel to Brazil often. I was going to take this laptop with me. The problem is their are gangs that work the airport, only looking for people with laptops. After they enter the taxi to leave the airport, guys on motorcycles come up and demand the laptop, obviously with gun in hand. My question is do these backbacks look like normal backbacks or is there something about them that could tip off these guys.

no way i'd go with a really nice bp... i'd at least make it very dirty, worn, etc. lookin'... and i'd make sure i dressed as poor lookin' as possible...

when i've gone to Venezuela (and won't be goin' back any time soon), i dressed down, way down... tryin' to look like a poor student or whatever... no jewelry - especially watches, braclets and neck chains... i bought a very cheap watch( wallet, etc.) to wear and that was all i showed... i kept very little money in my cheap wallet and used a money sack (worn under my clothes) to carry my travelers checks, etc.

my former wife warned me beforehand 'cause she used to work for Amex Platinum Travel and knew the risks...

i haven't been to Brazil, but since you have, you should have an idea of how to appear...

the whole idea is to not look like a tourist or business person...

good luck and be careful... life is very cheap in many countries...

Haha, got my Countour and 9300 about a week and a half ago. Good thing it has a lifetime warranty! I found out about flipping the back inside out as Tar Heel Guy was talking about and would do that before putting my laptop in, even though I put it in with the bottom of the laptop facing that way (Why someone would put it in with the top of the laptop facing your back is beyond me)
Well anyway the stitching is coming out on the side of the compartment for the laptop. Called Kensington expecting to go through a hassle to get it replaced, but surprisingly they just asked for some numbers on a tag inside and they're sending me a replacement.
What sucks is that they are on backorder until the end of September so I won't get my replacement until the beginnning of October! Oh well, it still works fine. Now realize I can just bend the back part a bit and get my lappy in no problems without having to worry about any scratches.
Other than my stitching problem I love the backpack.

I went to circuit city and felt it up

the kensington contour, its not as big as some say it is at all. It's rather small compared to my other bags, it's okay.

I put some moderate stress on the straps of the Contour and one strap ripped.

And no wonder......the stitching is very weak when you look at how its made within the lining. You do get what you pay for. Thank God it has a lifetime warranty for those that can't return it.

I returned mine.

P.S. The other Contour packs at Circuit City also showed me that the weak point of the pack is the strap stitching. It really is a weak point.

I say for those of you who want a rather cheap pack to go for the Samsonite Sport Backpack or for a little more $$, the overbuilt Swiss quality of the Victorinox at Ebags.com.

I love mine, but the stitching is comming out. Not a huge deal now, but nice to know they will replace it down the road.

Great, so I guess I'm not the only one that has had some problems with the stitching. Maybe I'll have a nice collection after a while since they let you keep the bad one when they send you a replacement.

I've owned this backpack for my i9300 for about a year now and i'm a college student. It's a good backpack, BUT, I definitely do NOT recommends it for college students. Why, you ask? Well, number one thing is that it doesn't hold much at all. At most, the backpack holds about 2 one inch binders and two 400-500pg hardback books , along with the 17in i9300, and its a pretty tight fit. Also, the backpack adds ALOT of weight; dont get me wrong--its still light enough to comfortably wear on the back, but when I put my laptop in my Adidas backpack (not laptop backpack), it is significantly lighter than the kensington, and it can hold more. Also, the Contour looks HUGE compared to normal backpacks; normal backpacks get 'smaller' once you take stuff out of it...but the Contour stays big regardless because of all the padding and whatnot. Also, the stitching is starting to come out on mine too. For college students, i would just say get a cool normal backpack and get a laptop sleeve.
